hi all the rxpg members,

i have been closely following the forum since long time but could not add to it as i was busy with the exams. i have gained a lot from the forum and thanks all the members who have contributed to my success in the exams.

but today i have to write as i need specific advice from all of u since i m in a great dilemma.

my credentials are as follows

USMLE step 1 score 99
USMLE step 2 score 90
USMLE step 2 cs yet to give but expected to give in october 2007.
will be green card holder as moving on immigration basis expected in november 2007.
graduated in 2003. from medical college in Gujarat .

now the problem is currently this year i got residency in diploma in Pathology in ahmedabad Gujarat .and currently i m doing in it.

so what i want to ask u is what are my chances in us in getting residency in internal medicine as it is my favourite subject with these credentials.

if chances are dim then i would like to compelte my residency then go. but the problem is then it will be too long as currently i m 29.

so what should i do?
i know the decision is to be taken by me but i need ur suggestions thanks.

it is not advisable to delay anything. diploma patho means nothing unless you plan to work in India. join some clinic in internal medicine if you can, on a part time basis under a good superviser, even if you donot get paid. This will help you in getting some reference letters. this will also help you in step 2 CS
all the best

thanks for replying.

my friend told me that he got information that one of his friend got 99/99/cs passed and still he got rejected and got very few interviews.

is is possible that how people with such brilliant scores get rejected. he told me that he was rejected because he was not having any us clinical experience.
is this possible? a

i have no idea. I think 99/99 is good score for a residency position in US. ppl say you have to apply intelligently- you have to gather information regarding schools offering residency positions to IMGs and plan accordingly. no idea regarding US clinical experience

IM is getting popular with AMGs ...so more easier to get into

Green Card with crappy scores may not necessarily land you in a good hospital... The situation is very competitive this year...It`ll be even worse next year.
