it acts on cytoplasmic receptors , ultimately that complex in internalized oin nuclues and increse mrna synthesis there.. so

so it acts on cytoplasmic receptors
action is mediated through mrna synthesis in nucleus

estrogen like any other steroid hormone penetrates the cell membrane of the target cells(being steroid it easily passes into cell membrane).within the cytoplasm it combnes with the cytiplasmic receptor to form hormone receptor complex.. whic enters the nucleaus...and then it acts thru DNA. now ....... what should be the answer.... cytoplasmic receptor or nucleus

Ans.1.Nucleus

Estrogen induce transcription in responce cells .
Steroids, because of lipid solubility enter cells by diffusion across the plasma membrane. Sex hormones, must enter the nucleus before it can bind to the receptor. Hormone activates the receptor protein in nucleus, then, activated protein and hormone create complex and bind to DNA. As a finale function: increased transcription.

Genetics, USMLE Step I, Regulation of Gene Expression, p.39

Question was about action of sex steroid hormones.
