Quick Scroll MD Pediatrics PGIMER 09.28.06 (1 year ago) #1

.without any doubt its THE BEST in INDIA and better than many in the western countries.it has a separate 300 beded all paeds building with all the pediatric subspecialities present.there r separate wards and consultants for each of the speciality.A resident gets a rotaton in all the sub and superspecialities of pediatrics thru his 3 yrs course.to name a few there are separate wards fro each of hemato-oncology,pulmonology, neurology, cardiology, gastro-enterology, allergy immunology, etc apart from the large neonatology,PICU , Pediatric emergency depts.there r separate postings for child psychology, social pediatrics. special clinics ,etc.apart from the regular GEN PAEDS units.the consultants in each of these specialities r amongst the best in INDIA.One gets to see all sorts of cases(most of the rare+of course all the common+rare presentations of the common cases) and all possible pediatric procedures.in addition u get the premium facilities of a central institute. academics r excellent and there's a full year programme covering almost everything (pediatrics+research).cons r its very heavy and labour intensive and there'll be a mess of ur personal life.expectations r very high (and they ought to be) work is almost equally divided over the 3 years, so one hardly gets time to read any theory(ofcourse that can be read in later life once u get out). but the toughest thing is to get the seat.its getting over before the G MED since a couple of yrs and ONE has to secure a rank in the first 15 in PGI entrance to get in.

Med/ Peds and Radio are 3 different subjects altogether. It depends on your personal interest. Pediatrics and Medicine in PGI are extremely busy. Even Radio is very hectic but within tolerable limits. Personally I feel Radiology shud be given preference over the other 2 as it is a specialized (terminal) branch with a brighter future than Gen Med and Peds, which require further studies (DM / Felllowships)
