Low scores alone would not be detrimental to your prsopects in the US.
It would be important to consider other factors like visa status...
I shall suggest that you research into prospects of the sepcialities you are interested in rather than the other way round...
Family Practice seems to be the least competitive.
US clinical experience would help improve your chances.

Look into other options as well... Atleast have a back up plan.

Good luck

US clinical experience is the key.. look for externships if you can... that with the local LORs will buck you up in the rat race for a residency.

Research experience with some publication is also valuable.

Low scores do not mean the need of everything.. your personality matters a lot when it comes to impressing during the interview.

Work on these factors and you`ll sail through.

Quick Scroll improving the CV 10.18.07 (8 months ago) #10

You said that you have nothing great to mention in your CV.Following is the list which may help those who have nothing superb to mention in their CV:
Have not you done any routine research survey during your posting in the Department of Community Medicine under the supervision of the head of department. Like I did mine on HEPATITIS-E for two months in the highly endemic part of of our area. I got it mentioned on my MSPE(medical student performance evaluation) signed by the HOD and then countersigned by my Dean. You must also have done such a research survey.then mention it.
Have not you been associated with any Health Education Programmes?Mention them .
Any association with some charitable medical organisation like DOC(Doctors Offering Care),etc.Mention it .
Have you ever been a part of or offered any voluntary medical services in case of Disasters like Earthquakes, snowstorms, fires ,etc?Do mention it.
Have you not attended or been part of any CME's(Continuing medical education ) programmes ,symposia, debates on any topics during your UGstudy period?
Have not you attended /organised any national medical education tour programmesCultural Fairs?Mention them
Any extracurrucular activities in the college are also appreciated.
Also try to get outstanding/excellent remarks and comments from all the Heads ofdepartments and Dean on your MSPE.
Best of Luck.
