I have a simple doubt!

Is technology Good or Evil?

Have we gone too much dependent on our emails,cellphones that they literally "rule" us?

Are we slowly turning our lives into a mechanical one?

Are we ruling the machines or Are they ruling us?

SOME SIGNS TO DIAGNOSE WHETHER U R TOO MUCH DEPENDENT ON NET

* You wake up at 3 a.m. to go to the bathroom and stop to check your e-mail on the way back to bed.

* You get a tatoo that reads "This body best viewed with Firefox2.0 or higher."

* You name your children Eudora, Mozillia and Dotcom.

* You turn off your modem and get this awful empty feeling, like you just pulled the plug on a loved one.

* You spend half of the plane trip with your laptop on your lap...and your child in the overhead compartment.

* You decide to stay in college for an additional year or two, just for the free Internet access.

* You laugh at people with slow net connection.

* You start using smileys in your handwritten mails.

* Your hard drive crashes. You haven't logged in for two hours. You start to twitch. You pick up the phone and manually dial your ISP's access number. You try to hum to communicate with the modem... And you succeed.

* You find yourself typing "com" after every period when using a word processor.com

* You refer to going to the bathroom as downloading.

* You start introducing yourself as "JohnDoe at AOL dot com."

* All of your friends have an @ in their names.

* Your cat/dog has its own home page.

* You can't call your mother... she doesn't have a home net connection.

* You check your mail. It says "no new messages." So you check it again.

* Your phone bill comes to your doorstep in a box.

* You don't know what sex three of your closest friends are, because they have neutral nicknames and you never bothered to ask.

* You move into a new house and decide to rxpg before you landscape.

* You tell the cab driver you live at "http://1000.edison.garden/house/brick.html."

And the diagnostic criteria to know whether Machine has taken over u..

1. You think of the Computer & Cellphone as "friends," but you forget to send your father a birthday card.

2. You have friends in net who are in Europe and US, but u dont know who is living in ur nearby house.

I fit in some of these criteria.

But i have control over them, when i feel i just swithc off my 6630 and throw it somewhere or just hibernate my PC.

These are machines and we made them. so ultimate control rests with us only. we can stop them when we want..........untill the machines become autonomous .....remember matrix !!

Anything can neither be good or bad/evil, it can be decided only by the use we make from it. Anything with in its limits is good, but too much of anything is definitely bad. Here we r talking about technology, n in case of technology even limited use of it for a bad purpose may harm a lot. And it entirely depends on the poeple who use it. Hope for the best n let us all give a positive thought that it, i mean technology will be used in a right way for the right purpose n bring many positive results in our near future.

I fit in the addiction to PC criteria as well. Infact i am known to have a boyfriend called Computer LOL
Yesterday My comp crashed, and i had a exam in college, i couldnt even concentrate in the exam, all i could do is think when i come back home and fix my 'boyfriend' LOL
Technology has its ups and down. It has provided better living conditions, life saving inventions, at the same time, it deteriorates the life style. More pollution, more crowd, wastage of resources, global warming are big side effects of too much technology. And ofcourse our dependency on it as well makes us handicapped when we are stripped of it.

To make this thread interesting i would suggest that we can discuss about individual things thier good and bad.

let me start. about cell phones:

good: 1)really the world is becoming smaller after the invention of phone. Imagine if they were not invented, we would have sent our msgs through post cards only, ofcourse even now we do that but phones have their own advantage of delivering the messages soon.
2)by the camera phones we can really capture the emotions or anything we would like to save.

bad: 1)talking unnecessary things for a long time in cell phones ' waste of time'
2)i never realized the use of ringtones except waste of money. personnally i never used any ringtones or caller tunes bcoz i think its waste except to gather money for the cell companies.
3)i have some where read long back that 'sms' even during hours of sleep is one of the cause of disturbed sleep in many mostly teenagers.

I think there are many things to add to this one. And also hope u would come up with another object
