icon_eek.gif Are you sure because as far as i know a debit card cannot be used for online transactions. At least the couple of debit cards i have don't allow that..

Other commonly used alternative is Draft.

I have an American debit card which is accepted. Maybe they don`t allow Indian debit cards. Ask the bank if they have a tie-up with American banks..those debit will be allowed then.

Do you have any idea which visa categories allow us to have an account in American Banks or an American Debit card for that matter?

Bank goofed up, that understandable but how come you reached the bank in the first place when you knew we can't get an account on B2!? icon_lol.gif icon_wink.gif

And yes.. Thanks for the info. icon_smile.gif

UPDATE: I too was able to open an account in a local US bank while on a visitor visa and get a visa debit card. So maybe some banks do allow this.

If you have a HDFC bank debit card you can do the following.
Go to HDFC bank website . Register for Netsafe with your Debit card.
They will provide with a freshly generated Virtual Credit Card number for you to use online. this stays vaild for one day only hence less chances of misuse. the money will be debitted from yor debit card/ savings account. You can save hassles of applying a new credit card!
But only if u have a HDFC debit card.
C if it helps u!!

Thanks.. Thats a mighty useful tip. I've seen people hunting for someone to lend their credit card to pay such expenses. Such an arrangement will be easier and more acceptable i guess.

One more question.. How many times are we allowed to do it, I mean is there a weekly/monthly/yearly limit on it?

No one ever told me that I was not allowed to open an account on B2. The bank executive I spoke to was from Mumbai too. So we discuss Mumbai over a cuppa and he lets me open the account.
One month later the bank realises that they goofed up and demands an explanation icon_lol.gif
