Quick Scroll Best PG course for research? 05.28.07 (1 year ago) #1

I am very much interested in research side.. I don't intend to do only clinical practise & pass my life in it.. I want to do something creative, something new..

I don't think it will be possible if I take medicine or paedia or such conventional lines..

Which lines are good for research? Which PG course should I pursue? Are most of researches borring like those in PSM or am I wrong?

I have heard a lot about pharmac n genetics.. Are there really scopes of research in these branches?

In short, what should I do if I want to have a career in research? in other words, what should I do if I want to live as a scientist rather than a Dr?

I am sorry i have absolutely no idea which PG course may aid research. But i can post my opinions upon this.
Almost all courses aid research. You have to select the topic you are most interested in, get enrolled in the course, pursue your research dream and keep with.
For being a professional scientist, i am guessing you need you enroll in a Research based Educational course. Like for instance with ICMR.

Dear parin....why do u think that the PSM research is boring ? u should not extrapolate ur personal view to thousands of PSM researcher working all over the world ! To my personal opinion PSM research is most challenging and rewarding because it is targetted to millions of people and conducted through hundreds of constraints.

yes area of interest are different, different people do different research but core principles and competencies in research is more or less same and non-negotiable over every area.

Quick Scroll Sorry, Shuvo!! 06.23.07 (1 year ago) #5

Dear Shuvo, I must say sorry if u r hurt by 'borring'..& yes, it is absolutely my personel view..

I really did not intend to hurt PSM researchers.. But the only reason I said it borring is that..

When I asked about research, I was sure many people would say PSM .. & as it is not in my choice, I just made sure by calling it borring that people who would reply me would not guide me towards PSM .. I just used that word to make my forum more SPECIFIC towards pharmac, genetics & alternative..

But if you & anybody is hurt, I am sorry for that..

Let me "improve my question" - Friends, I am interested in research but not in PSM .. Now please guide me!!!

i hope parin & monica will accept me too a member here in this research group . my wish is to make a huge impact in the field of research . i just dont want to die as a physician . i need to learn from you all a lot . nice thread many thanks for bringing this out .

Dear Shuvo,

it's perfectly all right!! that shows your liking for PSM .. & it always hurts when someone says bad about our beloved branch, matter, hobby, person... whatever!! so I admit I should have been careful.. but now, no problem! icon_lol.gif

Dear Monica,

thanks for your positive attitude.. of course I'll see ICMR section..

& Dear Pearllysun,

I have almost same approach as yours.. All the best.. But I think nonclinical would give a better chance for research.. of course, onco would be very good.. but I am rather more interested in basic sciences - physio, genetics..

All the best!!

Dear Parin, I am also interested in research in basic sciences. For some reason I dont find clinical branches suiting me. i may be wrong but i have a feeling that i am just not made for clinical practise. i am interested in research in the branches of biotechnology or molecular biology. i am not sure what branch i need to take and whether to go for MD at all. i am completely at sea, and every one is discouraging me. oldly i might be saying something to them but at heart i am afraid.

literally i am stuck in between two options....... listen to others or listen to my own self......... what other's say is safe and risk free and what my heart says is dangerous and thrilling and without any idea. i wish i know something what to do. it has been my dilemma since 3 years!
