In ARF, there is glomerular damage causing decrease in GFR which itself & secondarily by activating RAA axis cause decrease in urine output & retention of sodium & water..

In CRF, there is mainly tubulointerstitial damage causing loss of tubules' ability to concentrate urine causing excess urine formation..

By the way, it depends on cause of renal failure.. & there are also phases of oliguria & then diuresis & then recovery in ARF..
