I think Surgery esp orthopaedics is very competitive in the USA, esp for the foreign medical graduates.

well dev, preperation for MLE is much different from what we have been reading through in our MBBS course... USMLE STEP aims to test the candidate as how best he can interelate the various subjects and draw a conclusion...

to masterise that we have to start reading the kaplan notes... and read them thoroughly... thats the 1st task... later q banks will help in interelating the various subjects...

dont worry!!! just start reading kaplan notes and you will get the essence of the books on the way!!!

all the best!!!

Watching the kaplan dvds is an individual thing u can see them if u want an over view about the subject.if u r good and u can start without any help then u don't need to see them.
well if u start now then u can make it for 2009 match only so first clearing the steps aiming for 2009 match as the applications start next yr aug/sep.

DEV924 WATCHIN DVDS IS NOT A COMPULSION-THOUGH DEY ARE GUD AT CLEARIN CONCEPTS.BUT OFFCOURSE U CAN MANAGE WITHOUT THEM.

AS PER GETTIN RESIDENCY-

U NEED 5-6 MNTHS 2 CLEAR STEP-1,

4-5 MNTHS FOR STEP-2CK,

15-30 DAYS 4 CS.

BUT THEN AGAIN-IT VARIES PERSON TO PERSON.

IF U START UP WITH UR PREPS NW-U CAN MAKE IT TO 2009 MATCH EASILY.
