Quick Scroll Countdown... The Top 100 Games Ever... 06.21.07 (1 year ago) #1

Two years ago, the floodgates were opened by IGN Boards to vote for their favorite games of all-time. You heard right, not just what was liked in one particular year, but from the entire history of games. The debate over what ended up on the list lit up the message boards. Over the past few weeks, another shot was given at the favorites again and the results are in!

The criteria for creating this list of the picks for the Top 100 Games of All Time was as follows:

icon_arrow.gif All games had to receive at least 1,000 reader ratings.
icon_arrow.gif This list is comprised of single, stand-alone titles and doesn't include compilations, expansion packs or add-ons.
icon_arrow.gif Titles with multiple editions such as collector's boxes, gold editions or direct re-releases have been consolidated into one single entry, with the edition receiving the highest score taking the place for other editions.
icon_arrow.gif Updated versions of original titles were only included on the list if they were significantly different from their predecessors.
icon_arrow.gif Only games that have been released are eligible (this is for all you punks who think The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for Wii is a perfect "10" already).
icon_arrow.gif Games released anywhere in the world (that means Japanese-only releases) qualify for the list.

-Source: IGN Boards.

I'm presenting the list of games in a countdown format...

# 100 // Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution

Platform: PlayStation 2
Developer: Sega-AM2
Publisher: SEGA
Year Released: 2003
Why it Made the Top 100 List: Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution has countless hours of fun at your disposal. Between learning the ropes and the extensive quest mode, it'll be months before you exhaust everything to do in this game and if you got friends (you DO have friends, right?), the two-player modes will only extend the life span of the game. It may not be perfect, but it's as close to it as it can get.

# 099 // Tekken 5

Platform: PlayStation 2
Developer: Namco
Publisher: Namco
Year Released: 2005
Why it Made the Top 100 List: Fans of the series will definitely love Tekken 5, and newcomers will find the beautiful visuals and action packed game play tough to ignore. If you liked the visuals of Soul Calibur, picture them in a Tekken setting and prepare to be shocked at the colorful brilliance of each arena. Graphically Tekken 5 is one of the best, if not the best, game to appear on the PS2 yet.

# 09 8 // MVP Baseball 2005

Platform: PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PC
Developer: EA Canada
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Year Released: 2005
Why it Made the Top 100 List: It's a shame that this will be the last installment of the MVP series. But, complaints aside, EA did its part to make the swan song one that will stick in the memories of anyone who so much as plays it. New mini-games, more unlockable items, game play animations, owner mode, class A, AA, and AAA minor league teams, the Hitter's Eye...the list is almost endless. I honestly believe that rather than buying a baseball simulation in 2006, I'll just continue to maintain the rosters in this game and continue to play. It's that good.

# 097 // Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos

Platform: PC
Developer: Blizzard
Publisher: Blizzard
Year Released: 2002
Why it Made the Top 100 List: What can I say? This game totally rocks! I actually got this game from a friend for free, so I thought this game wouldn't last long. I was totally wrong. The graphics are shaded really nicely with lots of detail. The in-game movies are so awesome that I couldn't stop watching them. The sound just makes me speechless. The amount of magic spells that I can cast is great! The only flaw is that there should be more characters to use and that the graphics look rough when zooming into the environment. Overall, you'll be absorbed into this game!

# 096 // Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

Platform: GameCube
Developer:[/]b Silicon Knights
[b]Publisher:
Nintendo
Year Released: 2002
Why it Made the Top 100 List: Eternal Darkness takes the best parts of other survival horror and adventure games, improves the controls, perfects the sounds, adds a touch of mental instability, and then piles it all on top of an intricate story to form a truly worthwhile gaming experience. This game doesn't fall neatly into any known category, which is a good thing. Imagine a blonde Claire Redfield from Resident Evil taking a quick trip to Silent Hill only to relive the past 2000 years as 12 different people. Now imagine all of that with swords and magic. It sounds strange, but it all fits together seamlessly.

# 095 // Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

Platform: Dreamcast, PC, Nintendo 64, PlayStation
Developer: Treyarch
Publisher: Activision
Year Released: 2000
Why it Made the Top 100 List: Pro Skater 2 is a truly fun experience, an exhilarating skateboarding global ride and a mapmaker to mould your very own skate park and keep you playing. If you still own a PSone and don't have this game, scavenge some local games store to see if you can find it. For about a fiver.

# 094 // Golden Sun

Platform: Game Boy Advance
Developer: Camelot Software Planning
Publisher: Nintendo
Year Released: 2001
Why it Made the Top 100 List: If you are a fan of turn-based RPGs and you own a GBA, then you should buy this game immediately. Everything is fantastically made and presented. The graphics are good for GBA, the sound is excellent, the presentation and game play are very enjoyable, and the game is definitely worth the money.

# 093 // Wario Ware, Inc: Mega Microgame$

Platform: Game Boy Advance
Developer: Nintendo R&D1
Publisher: Nintendo
Year Released: 2003
Why it Made the Top 100 List: The simplicity, frantic fun and sense of urgency make this a must-own title for any Game Boy Advance owner. It also packs full versions of some of the best pick-up-and-play games available and plenty of two-player games for those long car rides. There's quite a bit to unlock, and the only problem is that after Wario Ware has been played to death, the 200 mini-games can lack their original luster. Even so, you won't want to miss out on one of the best handheld titles of the year.

# 092 // Kingdom Hearts

Platform: PlayStation 2
Developer: Square
Publisher: Square Electronic Arts (US)
Year Released: 2002
Why it Made the Top 100 List: When I first heard of Kingdom Hearts I thought it was pretty stupid since it was a Disney RPG. The game did not interest me until I saw some movies…and man I was hooked. Square has done it again with another great title to add to their brilliance. Combining Disney Characters and going into their movies, with a new story, with Squaresoft's skills and character animation is genius.
