Quick Scroll key to success 07.14.07 (1 year ago) #1

Hello frens,
I understand tat after gettin a job no one cums to this site often , even i have stopped visitin this site quite often as i used to...
but
I wud like to share my experience with you, of gettin a job, i m sure i ll help!!
I finished my internship in jan this yr after which i came to uk in feb , booked fm PLAB for june 07 n passed it.
Even before i got my PLAB results i had booked my ALS course which i think gave me an edge... I also booked ALERT course.
I had also applied for a clinical attachment but i never got to do one...I had a job bfr tat!
The biggest hurdle in gettin a job is gettin shortlisted n the key to it
. DOIN THE COURSES
. WRITIN DOWN A GUD CV WHICH HAS EVERYTHIN UNDER HEADINGS
. FILLING U APPLICATION FORMS N A WAY WHICH REFLECTS TAT " U R THE BEST" donot under estimate urself for eg if they ask for say "teachin experience" n u think u havent got any, think again, u must have taught ur juniors at med school , u must have educated patients n made them aware about lifestyle ect... u may have done community teachin , paticipated in puse polio programme durin ur PSM postin.

if they ask u about research ect n u havent done it which most of us havent then please don leave it blank write tat u havent had the opportunity but you understand what reseach/ clinical governance is n wud participate if opportunity cums.
DONOT LEAVE ANY OF THE COLUMNS BLANK.... write sumthin , think
WHEN U R SHORTLISTED FOR INTERVIEW...
make sure cum across as avery inthusiastic aware person n tell them tat you r the best n they have to take take u.( not in these many words but u shud cum across like this)
Be VERY CONFIDENT durin the interview, prepare all ur answers fm before n most of the questions are there on rxpg forums. there is always a clinical scenario i had hypotensive pt, fracture femur, drowsy patient cryin in pain.
they r not difficult questions dont forget ur ABCDE , DONT FORGET oxygen, fluids wen needed, relevant investigations and CALL FOR SENIOR HELP wen u r stuck.
practice breakin bad news and remember there cud be a ques on pt confedentiality..
BEST OF LUCK TO ALL OF YOU
Diff people have diff approaches , i did this n got 6 interview calls attended 3 interviews n was offered a job in all d three places within three weeks of passin PLAB !! I have taken up Arrowe Park hosp fy1

hi doc
if u have started gettin shortlisted tat means ur cv is fine doesnt matter whether u hav ny academic achievements etc . Wen u r called for an interview they have already assessed ur cv / forms etc.
Nomatter what ur visa status is or ur academic achievements, researchs audits u have done, it doesnt matter , everyone is equal then.
N then the key is havin a gud interview by preparin all ur answer fm before n if theres a new ques jus aproach it with cool. they r jus assessin ur approach....
U know for sure tat there is a clinical scenario do it fm befr, read the ALERT book.
regardin researchs etc u shud fully understand wat clinical governance is , its components, understandin of audits , the definitions n how a research becums a guidline(NICE)
N there are a lot of jobs cumin up on bmj careers, apply in all the places, u never know wen u ll be lucky
GOOD LUCK......

I think they take into account the year you graduated and the year you took PLAB . Thats the key to shortlisting. The more difference B/W the 2 then its difficult. I think some places they look into your visa as well. But many people who require work permit were also shortlisted. So its really tricky.

Yes offcourse I agree with u Ram to some extent, but u know one can never figure out about their criteria as i have seen many senior people got jobs in FY1.
Thanks again nidhi for ur concern, I have not been shortlisted for fy1 as yet, i dont know if people who got shortlisted for fy1, manipulate in their applications about their job experience. I hope i could get another chance.
Gud luck to every one
