PSM as a subject has never failed to make its presence felt ever since I MBBS. Believe it or not my struggle against PSM begin 2 yrs back & now in the 7th sem.. the herculean task of answering PSM .

Though most of us remain asymptomatic in the II MBBS as regards to PSM … Come 7th sem..with constant realization of the exams in the offing, everybody seems to have their noses deep down their ‘PARKS’!!!... severely affected.. Ha Ha Ha!

To read, re read & re read is a daily thing until u memorise it enough to recite it back to front, when woken from sleep! Great fun!

Earlier I thought Biostatistics 2 be a separate entity asked only for pracs. Be it the sampling techniques, cluster sampling, normal distribution or the CHInkie CHInkie “Chi square” test.. its undoubtedly asked for theory.. Now I understand why Biostatistics is called the heart of PSM !!
U CAN RUN, U CAN HIDE.. BUT U CANNOT ESCAPE Biostatistics !!

But with a new edition of PARK introduced every year, they say the health statistics of diseases are upgraded.. I have been studying from the 18th edition... Haven’t found much difference in the statistics as far as the 18th & 19th editions are concerned.. Rather it would be foolish to keep buying every new edition that lands up in the market!!

What say?

how much of the statistical details should one know from the problem statements? World, SEAR, National or State statistics… how much? WHICH TO PICK? WHICH TO KICK?

How much of statistical details should we study from the NATIONAL HEALTH PROGRAMMES?

Statistics of all diseases … Is it required?

What about state health statistics? I have heard the seniors saying, health statistics of ur own state is one of the favourite questions of every external examiner.!!

I have posted my queries.. only few of them. Us, 7th sem students will definitely have many more statistical queries.I am relying on the willingness of my counterparts to post them & (help from seniors who have already answered PSM ).. atleast until another student decides to write about them in the future!!!
