About Good Standing Certificate from GMC?

Recently i talked with GMC & came to know that, to get a Good Standing Certificate from GMC, a doctor must get registered with GMC first.
most of the Good Standing Certificate from medical authority overseas is valid for 6 month only. So if a doctor draw it & submit it to GMC, do they need to submit good standing certificate from the medical authority every 6 month or this is just for one time.
if a doctor draw Good standing certificate in May 2007, will it work if it is send to GMC after 19th october 2007 for full registration purpose?
I think this discussion will help other doctors who are also planning to get GSC from GMC.

hi shuvro I am a bit confused.if you are overseas, you have to submit GSC to GMC. when i passed PLAB
2yrs back.i showed them certificate bu they said its valid only for 3months(eventhough 6mnths in india).they would ask for GSC from india at the time of registration. do you have any idea whether state medical council GSC will be enough or they want it from indian medical council delhi.

Hi Meerama,
i know a friend who got herself registered using GSC from state medical council.she didnt have enough time to apply n wait for GSC from IMC,delhi.
Im waiting for mine as well as it needs atleast 4weeks for IMC GSC,while the state one can be got quite easily without waiting.

Hi,
It is very clearly mentioned on the GMC website that state medical council's GSC will be accepted. Infact, they have given the addresses and contact details of the various state medical councils.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Hi all. if you have got a full registration with the GMC, can you ask them for GSC even if you have never held a post in UK?

I have heard of many who got from state med coucil in the india region and are registered.....
Certificate of good standing is usually valid for 3months if sent from overseas to the GMC and you need to have completed your GMC reg within this period.....so time it.
Once registered with GMC, you need a record with GMC....(holding a post or been a member for a few years) to be able to get a cert of Good standing form GMC ( i wonder what someone needs this for)....enlighten me please
In any case , list of bodies in different countries organization that are liable or that can isssue certificate of good standing is available on GMC website.
You will find this useful wen starting your application.
ALL THE BEST
