hi guys, plz advise. i am an img with a USMLE step-1 and step-2 scores of 96 and 83 respectively. i am very unhappy with my score of 83 in step-2.what are my prospects for the residency in the usa.
is the score of step -1 or step -2 more impotant ? which of the scores is given more weightage by the residency prigram directors? what should i do to increase my prospects of getting a residency?
i have also applied for recheck of my step-2ck,can it increase by rechecking? has any bobies score ever increased by a rechek?

hi there,
a lot of things are taken into consideration for residency.. so u must keep working to increase ur prospects, by getting any USCE, be ECFMG certified, and spruce up your CV.
And i dont think u have a poor score in there..keep going..

now tell me should i apply to the progams which have an eligibility of at least a two digit sccore of 85 in both the steps-1,2ck?
should i apply to them as well? will they call me for an interview?
plz advise?

the thing abt recheck is really a mystery..no one knows for sure..but there isn't any harm in trying...but keep ur focus on other things as well..tc

and abt applying to programs which require atleast 85 on each steps, i think you should contact the program before doing so.

i have now applied for recheck about 2 wks ago. hope to share my experience with you after three more weeks.
thanks to all who responded to my post and those who are thinking of responding.
i started this post only because this topic of rechecking is mostly left untouched on all forums.
i want to present my practical experience on this post(whatever it is) in oredr to give the upcoming examinees a thourough idea about it and to remove the cloud of mystery surrounding it

Dear Phycician,
dont get discouraged 83 islittle low but my sincere advise is to get good us lors look for observerships,Externships and apply to lot of community programs and family medicine as back up.
One more thing Nothing is impossible nothing in this world and everything in relative so patience
