I think that still better to apply for your registration after you get a post. If you are applying for a foundation programme starting in August 2008, it will better to wait with your registration untill your foundation post allocation and have your pre-employment check done by your future employer(around March 2008). If you apply now for provisional registration you will be allowed only to apply for foundation year 1 posts . You will not be able to get into a foundation year 2 post with your provisional registration. I think that you should apply for provisional registration only when you are sure that you will get a foundation year 1 post. Otherwise, leave your options open for provisonal or full registration.

I hope it helps. Thanks

Hi Maria

If you apply for a provisional GMC registration you will be allowed to be on that registration for a minimum of a 1 year and for a maximum of 2 years. If you start a locum as a FY1 this year with provisional GMC registration, you will be allowed to stay on that registration for a maximun of 2 years. I read this information on the GMC website and even I heard of someone doing and FY2 post last year and this year he is doing and FY1 post. Even though, i think that it would be a very good idea to ring the GMC and confirm this information with them.

I hope it helps. Thanks

Are u sure about this...cos if we dont apply for provisional registration now is that ok with the application process.....i mean do they have a deadline for us to get registered with gmc b4 we actually start our fp in 2008!!!

but we dont have an option for applying for provisional or full registeration coz if you have done internship back home they will automatically give you full registeration unless ofcourse you hide it from them that you have not done it but that is a big risk in itself.

it is right with full registration u cannot apply for f1 and with provisional cannot apply for f2.getting registration will be tricky for those who have done house jobs.
