This is pathological Jaundice by defenition.Since the mother's blood group is o positive so she is set for ABO incombatibility doing baby's blood group and Coobs test( which most of the time is either negative or weakly positive) is the logical next step.Any way you have to consider the other possibilities like G6PD ,but the question did not tell us wheather the baby is a boy or a girl.

No the question does not state about the gender of the child- anyway how does it matter in this case?

Reminder-The mother is RH positive and not negative. So why the incombatibility.I can understand if it was negative and that she developed the antibodies to fight, if the child was RH +ve.
Do u still want to contemplate on incompatibility or is the answer an alternate one like G6PD ?

Or is it that I am getting confused here?-lol

Any explanations anybody?

Hey Guys, This case is neither liable for RH incompatability ( mother is Rh +ve)nor there is a thing called ABO incompatability bet.mother & fetus .so, I think jaundice is due to any other cause,
such as:
septicemia------->Bl.culture

Dear Munnacanada:

Abo incompatibility now is the most common cause of hemolytic disease of newborn.the mother is O group and the babty is either A or B group.

sex of the baby is important when you consider G6PD which is X-Linked disease.

the mother being Rh positive it reffers to the most common antigen the D ,obviously this does not exclude the possibility of minor group in combatibility like E,C,duffy....
