Quick Scroll Clinical contacts in Canada Vs Current Medical practise abro 11.05.07 (1 year ago) #1

This is for my wife:

She is a dermatologist trained abroad, now a Canadian citizen. We had come to Canada over 3 and half yrs back. Here she has been doing the work of a cosmetic laser technician. Now she has got a job offer in the Middle east as a Dermatologist.

She is now planning to give all the Canadian Licensing exams.

My question is- is it better for her to stay back in Canada and try make clinical contacts here for Letter of Recommendations, which she will require in future for getting into residency here.Currently she has made a few clinical contacts only.
OR
Its better that she gets back into her field of Dermatology as soon as possible in the Middleeast and then finish the exams one at a time, and then apply for residencies here.

In short do u think getting to know clinical contacts(Doctors here in Canada ) weighs better than getting back into practice or vice-versa.

We are thinking of weighing our balances for making this decision.

Any input regarding this is highly appreciated.
Thanks

I SUGGEST THE LATTER ONE , GO INTO CLINICAL PRACTICE AS SOON AS POSSBLE , IN MY PERSONAL OPINION WORKING AS TECHNICIAN GOES AGAINST ONES'RESIDENCY SCOPES. IT IS SUBJECTIVE OPINION .POEPLE WILL RECOMMEND THE FIRST ONE THOUGH.
I SOMEHOW DONT AGREE WITH THAT.
WAIT FOR OTHERS TO ANSWER AS WELL.

good luck in Canada ! Don" waste time ,go for USMLE !

I have a lot of my doctors they are winners in there.
All exams are predictable and they need doctors and they rely will get you. In Canada tonnes of doctors around delevery pizza, laser technician,e.c..t...
Government know about us but simple ignoring, and make only unnatural smile into your face!
Conclusion- go for USMLE ! Stay and live in your country!
I would appreciate Canada if they get all of us and offering special no intimadenting way to become a doctor. I am sorry very dissapointing massage but it is true.

if the salary is good in middle east .I think it is better to go, she can give exams in Saudi Arabia, United arab emirates or Oman.
During this time she will contact with some doctors and came to Canada to some conferences and from this point as specialist she will get more connection .and in middle east their is a lot of canadian or american graduates through them she can got a connection.
may be i am wrong.

Ron , Dont worry about munnacanada,
Like every one else he is eventually gonna use his own mind only.
Taking suggestions is just another way to accumulate data and facts of other persons' experience and opinions , and careful sailors generally do that. It no way indicates that person isnt using his own mind.
Infact mostly, sharp poeple accumulate facts and figures before they figure out final strategies collaborating them with their own strengths , limitations , risks , perceptions , and ambition........

i couldnt agree more with Siyaa, active clinical practice as a physician is really important. and working as lazer technician would mean break in practice which is considered bad.
One more thing, getting into Dermatology would be really difficult. easiest would be to go for Family Medicine in Canada or internal medicine in US.
This is how i see things, i could be wrong. again you are your best judge
Goodluck

clinical practice in her field is much much better than working as a technician... even LOR from Canada do not count that much if you're not practicing as a doctor, that's the truth.... physicain assistant is another alternative if she can get one.. that's the best because you get actully to work with patients...and it helps a lot in the application, otherwise anything else even good scores do not count that much...i know many people with good LOR, good scores but did,t get any residency.... why? that's the millionaire dollar question??????
