Dear Post Plabers,

I need your advice on a couple of issues.
I am a doctor from Pakistan. I did my PLAB 2 in April 2005 ( which means that it expires in April 2008). For the last two years I have been working as a post-graduate trainee / resident in Obs & Gynae in Pakistan. I have passed FCPS - I and MRCOG - I.

I did my primary medical qualification in 1997 and immediately thereafter did a one year internship in Pakistan in Medicine and Obs & Gynae ( 6 months each).

I need you views on:

1) For the full registration under GMC do I need to do a 3 months internship in surgery [ because that is the only thing that is missing from my experience]. OR will GMC consider the work in Obs & Gynae , which is a surgical speciality, as valid internship in surgery. Pl advise.

2) To show relevant clinical experience, what kind of documentary evidence is required. Will a certificate from the consultant [ on his / her letter head] will do OR a certificate from the Hospital Administration is needed. OR should I get a certificate from the licensing authority of my country i.e. Pakistan Medical & Dental Council. I would appreciate if someone who recently got the Registration, under the new format, please attach the format the he / she used.

Well to be really frank the best people to answer this is the GMC and u can clear all ur doubts.
I always found it useful calling them directly or emailing them.

But I think if u have ur initial internship certificate along with letters from hospitals tht u have been employed for so many years.
with a good standing certificate from them.

But as i said best is email them abt the doubt...

congrats on the job!...i recently passed my PLAB in sept and now planning to apply for my full registration...i wanted to know...if u dont mind...do we have to send our original internship certificate?...do they send it back to us if we do?...and how do they let u know wether u have got the registration or not....is it via e-mail or post?...well i know some of these q's probable seem a bit silly....but these things jst keep popping up in my head !!

Just wanted to know, if you don't have the internship certificate or the certificate not showing names of the department, then what to do? Thanks for your help.

Cambi please mail or call GMC and tell them you want to Register and wud like to know the requirement...then ask specific questions later,......please do ASAP as there is a rush in Jan and feb...and u aint got time

GMC is interested in details of intership
date, department, post/grade, hours of work
so its best to have a detail thing that show at least dates and department
but again GMC is best to give a reply!
