Quick Scroll What should I apply for? 11.21.07 (7 months ago) #1

Hi,

I am a student finishing up a PhD in computing in Australia , am 26 years old and am planning on going over to the UK after I finish it in March, although I will not be notified about its success for probably 6 months after that. I will be living over there with my partner of 4 years, who has recently gone over to work and do her PhD (she was born in the UK and raised here so she has dual citizenship). In the UK I will be working and traveling but living with her.

I have been a student my whole life and looking at the Highly skilled migrant point score, but I don't pass it yet since I don't imagine I can claim the points for a PhD before I have been awarded it, nor have I ever earned enough money, never having been out of Uni/School for more than summer holidays. Currently I am living off a commonwealth scholarship which doesn't give much, especially when converted to pounds. I don't think I can claim residency through my partner; although we lived together for some time we don't have any evidence that it seems is required - the lease and bills were under my name nor did we have a shared bank account, and the time we lived together is less than the 2 years that is required.

I have English heritage, but it is my great-grandparents, not my grandparents so it is probably too far up the family tree to qualify with that.

So what is my best plan to be able to go to the UK, work and holiday as I choose for what could be 5 years or more? I don't really have any definite plans made so I would to like the most general approach that I can given my status.

Thanks!
