The seventh cervical vertebra is sometimes considered atypical since it lacks a bifid spinous process

The 11th and 12th thoracic vertebrae are sometimes considered atypical because they lack a superior costal demifacet. The 11th and 12th ribs thus articulate only with the 11th and 12th thoracic vertebrae, respectively.
