Computer upgrade

Hello friends!
I recently upgraded my desktop with an AMD Athlon (5600+) dual core + MSI motherboard K9AGM2-L. 
The problem is that i don't know anyone with the same machine nor any expert to comment on this matter. 
Comments and reviews from forum is highly needed as to wether the combination is good in respect of cost-effectivity, durability,performance,quality,etc.

Thats a Powerful Chip.
Good going pal.
As far as i am concerned, i have no personal experience on AMD, so not making more detailed comments on it.
A Good GeForce Graphics card and a 1-2GB RAM will make your PC work lightning fast.
Windows XP+SP3(a Release Candidate version of SP3 is available online) is a good choice for an operating system. Vista is way too RAM hungry.

that's a good config but u did not informed abt the RAM and speed of the processor.
if u have a fast processor then i would say that u should shell out some more cash to get more RAM around 2GB it will increase ur performance dramatically in all aspects

i would say that if u need to play heavy games then only go for a graphics card of that kind else ur day today work can easily be done on the integrated graphics.
but i would say RAM and that too lots of it is always better.
and vista is very complicated and resource hungry in comparison to XP

thanks friends for your replies.
now to go in more details, the processor is dual core with 1152+1152kb cache operating at 2800mhz [around 800mhz for a intel dualcore 2.2ghz] as per notification on box.is that of any help?anther thing written is "overall system performance with up to a 2000mhz system bus".
the processor has an inbuilt ATI graphic-chip of around 512mb support [about the support it is not written on the box but available from net and other peoples comment].
in the computer the processor speed shows 64bit with 2.8ghz.
i have bought a 2gb single zion RAM though it cost me around 3 times of a 1 gb  because i intend to add another 2gb on the other slot in future. 
so what do you think about this combination? please if possible find the experience of others or comments of people you know having good knowledge in this matters including yours.
another thing i want to know is wether NVIDIA or ATI will be better as my past experience with NVIDIA is very satisfactory but the fact that ATI & AMD are now merged together.

2GB RAM! Any idea of going into Space?  Your desktop must be performing at the speed of a rocket! Some day when i become free of all studies, i will also buy such a RAM.
"ATI graphic-chip of around 512mb support" means your processor can run most of the new games even without a graphics card, if i am not mistaken.
I am still on an old PC. It used to be the best when i bought it, now its out dated. So not commenting on the Graphics Card.

as a matter of fact i was also planning to do so after the exams, but since i got a good price for the old one and could not do without the net for 2-4 months, i had to buy the machine. 
regarding the 2gb RAM, i didn't want to face the same consequence as earlier when I had a 512mb but after a few days the hype was of 1gb.since I have 2*2gb slots, i decided to go for it. 
ya the desktop was running smooth with VISTA initially but it has slowed down very much now with even increased time of booting and opening of applications, besides showing 'errors' in Windows Media Centre. I don't know wether its a hardware problem or Vista's. i have to check with loading WIndows XP.
WHAt r you planning to buy after exams?

The increased Boot time may be due to some programs running in the startup. Use any system tweaking softwares to see and remove unwanted startup programs. Advanced Windows Cleaner V2 Personal is an excellent FREEware for this.

Its even better than other freeware system tweakers(Cc Cleaner,Tweak UI)
If its not due to unwanted startup programs, It may be due to your broadband modem. After power on, a broadband cable modem needs some time to establish connection with the network which increases the boot time. Boot ur PC with your modem switched off and see whether ur PC boots fast. Retest the boot time with the Modem switched ON.
Another rare possibility are viruses and spywares. Check for any unusual startup activities, like a new message box or unusual behaviour of the browser. But as i said before, its a rare possibility only and is always a diagnosis after excluding common conditions, like diagnosis in our clinical practice.
After exams, i.e after i get some seat in PG, i would love to buy a Mac Book with Leopard OS and 1-2GB RAM. But its way too costly. Will decide according to my salary. If i get a lottery, i will also buy a good PDA. Buying a Desktop is not a choice as i cant carry it along with me.

no, the broadband modem is not the problem, since the problem remains after 1hr of booting and even during disconnecting. the former problem may be a possibility though.
i will try the cleaner and then report.

Okie..
By the way that software works like a charm in XP.
I can definitely say there are NO other freewares which is as smooth as this one in Tweaking the System.
And its Vista compatible too. I have been using this freeware for last year from its Version 1 itself.
