I have been using the Free version of AVG till now. Just now i downloaded and installed the Pro version.
At the time of install, it automatically enters the required serial number of the Professional Version.
...
The Pro version is working great!

What's the difference between the free and the pro version?
If one has Norton anitvirus, will this create problems with the AVG?

Yes it will create problems if you install Norton Antivirus & AVG Antivirus together.
No two Antivirus programmes should be installed together on the same PC,
why because it will cause mutual conflicts between the two progammes.
If you wish to use AVG Pro then you need to uninstall Norton from your PC.
Uninstalling Norton can be risky if done by the less experienced PC users.
The difference between Norton & AVG Pro lies in the difference in the utilization of system resources. AVG Pro uses only ~3MB of RAM to keep it running in the system background. Where are Norton Antivirus 2007 uses a minimum of 10-15MB to run the shield. Both these aren't a 'Huge' RAM use.
So if you have the Latest & Fully Updated Genuine Norton AV and a good RAM, stick to Norton.

Oh.. My Norton is a free 60 day trial, so I'm thinking of removing and then replace it with AVG instead. Now the question is how to delete it properly because you said it can be risky.
Thanks for your help!

Symantec offers detailed info on how to uninstall Norton.
Here's the link to the symantec page which explains how to do it after the trial expires,

Windows Vista needs a lot of memory(RAM) to run(500MB-1GB)
So if you are using vista, a RAM of 2GB will be ideal to ensure a very smooth performance.
Windows XP needs only ~120MB RAM to run.
The higher memory usage of vista is mainly due to its eye candy features.
The memory use of Norton is insignificant when compared to Vista, why because Vista is an operating system and Norton is just a single program running in the operating system. Norton antivirus uses only ~15MB of RAM to keep itself running in the background.
You can try these freewares - "Advanced Windows Care V2 Personal" and "Ccleaner" to speed up your PC. Just search in google with their names to get them.

That is a difficult question. Why because Norton, even though bloated, is an experienced hand and is an established security for corporate environments. AVG is light, but is a new comer and is mainly used by home PC users. Let me try to review both.
Norton Antivirus 2007 has an inbuilt Antivirus + Antispyware + Firewall.
The programs runs in the background using ~15MB of RAM.
Norton Antivirus 2007 costs ~38 US$ for a 1 year license.
AVG Antivirus Professional 7.5 offers Antivirus only. There is no Antispyware protection and no Firewall. Because of the same reason the memory use can be as low as 3MB of RAM. You need to install separate softwares for Antispyware protection and Firewall or you will need to buy AVG internet security(52$ for 2 year license) for that.
AVG Antivirus Professional 7.5 costs 38.95 US$ for a 2 year license.
So performance wise, Norton Antivirus 2007 is still the winner.

I recommend that you upgrade your laptop's RAM to atleast 1GB.
A 512MB RAM will cost ~Rs2000/- or less.
These are the minimum system requirements to run Vista
Vista Home Basic
* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
* 512 MB of system memory
* 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
* Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory
* DVD-ROM drive
* Audio Output
* Internet access
Vista Home Premium / Business / Ultimate
# 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
# 1 GB of system memory
# 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
# Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:
* WDDM Driver
* 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
* Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware
* 32 bits per pixel
# DVD-ROM drive
# Audio Output
# Internet access
You can download and install this software(from Microsoft) "Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor" to see what all things your laptop needs to run vista.
