females plz come up with the
positive points nd
drawbacks in Psychiatry
u have faced...
does 1 need s to be mentally emotinally very tough before going for Psychiatry ..
shud the people who r emotinal and sensitive or have faced depression once in a life time think twice before opting Psychiatry ...
though they r absolutely normal now and mentally tougher than ever before....

i would strongly advise you to think through your career options before doing something like Psychiatry . it is a medical field like every other and has its own pros and cons.
you would face the same problems whether you are treating some one who is or isnt mentally ill.
psychological issues pervade every aspect of social interactions. having a depressive disorder should not preclude you from doing psych if you like it....however you need to look after you mental health carefully and this holds true if you go on to take up any specialty. you need to be "emotionally and mentally tough" to get into a local train as well

im a second yr Psychiatry resident, a female who has found Psychiatry to be the best branch ever, as a female i never felt intimidated by the so called stressful and mentally taxing environment, every individual is vulnerable, its wrong to say that one who has been depressed cant be a psychiatrist!!!thats so lame!!! the bottom line is if u are ready for this branch, go for it, it will teach u a lot, and if u have taken it by choice, u will love it as i am loving it .
