Blue is the expert in this topic Shashank.

I am totally ignorant about telescopes!
Thats why i was a little late in replying.
My skills regarding telescopes are limited to bird watching only. icon_biggrin.gif
Well that was not really a telescope, it was a binocular.

There are three main types of optical telescopes.

1) Refractors - lens gathers light.

2) Reflectors - mirror gathers light.

3) Catadioptrics - a combination of lenses and mirrors are used to gather light.

All three types have their own advantages and dis advantages.... before going to that let us see some of the most important features of the telescopes.

Most important features you should look for before buying the telescope..

Not in a order

1 Mount (stand) (alt-azimuth and equatorial.)

2 Aperture

3 Focal length

4 Focal ratio

And never ever buy telescope by looking at its magnification… ..

Reflector

Reflectors use a concave mirror to focus light onto a secondary mirror that in turn reflects the image into the eyepiece, mounted on the side of the barrel. This process creates greater magnification.

Advantages:-

• Lowest cost
• compact and portable
• Larger available apertures provides for excellent viewing of faint objects, such as remote galaxies, nebulae and star clusters.
• deliver very bright images

Disadvantages:-

• Generally not for terrestrial objects
• Slight light loss
