Quick Scroll info regarding picking up colleges via UPPG 02.21.08 (7 months ago) #1

this for all students who are thinking of opting a particular branch and are looking fr that in any college in up (exclusive to UPPG), i've been a student of meerut so fr that i wanna clarify some things regarding the seats available there, as the general opinion among students is that no seat is good there ,but it's not exactly so when u don't have very good options left .some dep i don' know about ,i'l only review those i know:

NUTSHELL: OBS GYNAE n OPHTHA are SEATS WORTH CONSIDERING

OBS n GYNAE: this is a good department in meerut with good teachers n patient load is okay, this is one of the few dep. with full faculty available, though lots of personal cores of teachers are to b done by the jrs n a lot of vociferous pressure on JRs(that's not new in gynae), so this department will definitely pay back if u take it specially fr gals(rather exclusively).

OPHTHALMOLOGY: this is one of the best equipped dep. in meerut ,meaning at least working slit-lamp synaptophore and such basic machines are available(no Phaco),pt load okay due to Dr. sandeep mittal, good teachers(Dr. sandeep mittal the principal and renowned opthalmologist),, this is a seat worth taking fr any guy or gal if one wants this branch n is getting that in meerut.passing out rate is excellent.

MED. N SURG. these bramches are usually taken by good rankers only when they wanna do DM and MCh the reason is clear that u don't get a patient exposure, rather very poor exposure of good cases, but u'l get hell lot of time to study fr superspecialities, n so many students have performed superb taking these branches.plastic surgery dep needs special mention 'coz the teacher is devoted n one gets good knowledge if one wants.rest i don think any med surg part is at par.

PAediatrics: below par, a new teacher has been appointed DM neonat aiims, may b it'l improve.

radio:unrecognized,no ct,no mri, below par

skin:unrecognised, but pt exposure is okay, at par

ortho:poor pt. exposure, poor facilities, deficient faculty in no. of teachers.below par

ent(DLO only):unrecog,one teacher,poor pt. exposure, can't rate

anaesthesia:can't comment

pre-clinicals:spm is okay,anat is good,path-no facilities available,pharma-facultywise okay.fm-totally deficient,bc-deficient,physio-faculty okay.

follow the GENERAL RULES:

1.never go by whims and fancies, what i feel.

2. if ur family has a doc in specialty choose that fr the best, if not and wanna settle in big cities(not just by fancies) u can go fr smaller branches.
med n surg pay less in bigger cities but are excellent fr small cities.

3. always prefer institutes over branches lucknow>kanpur>allahabad>agra~meerut>gkp>jhansi is the general order

4.it's not a bad choice to choose lower colleges in med n surg if u wanna do DM n MCh (rem it's tough, weigh that, judge ur caliber proficiently) coz generally u'l get much more time to study there.

5. for unrecognised seats DNB has to be done later, n then it may bring u at par-i can't say much on this point as 'm not sure about it

6.always prefer degree over diplomas,DNB is a must after diploma,(search other rxpg forums for clarifications).

these are all points i gained by talkin to docs in my family n otherwise,n the opinion is subjective, anybdy may differ frm me.

STUDENTS FROM OTHER COLLEGES OF UP ARE KINDLY REQUESTED TO THROW SOME LIGHT ON AT LEAST FEW DEP. IN THERE COLLEGES, SO THAT EVERYBODY CAN MAKE A INFORMED DECISION.

thanx zohaib. i don know muchabout bond conditions but since there are so many students leaving the seats evry year, i don think that's a very big issue.i am not very clear about up college but can tell that BHU has it as-25000 return if left in one month n 1 lakh if thereafter, so may b up colleges are around that too but not at all sure.
