Quick Scroll ROUTES TO Australia for people with out POST GRADUATION. 02.24.08 (2 months ago) #1

Hey all,

Hi this is a rough guide to guys without PG. I know that many of u are confused. Here are few options.

Ok, for the guys with only MBBS, The best way i feel is get some training in Psychiatry or Emergency medicine. Hospitals like St.Johns in Bangalore gives good training in Emergency medicine. It need not be a training job, but u can work as RMO or tutor in emergency med or Psychiatry . Having an experience of atleast 6 months, u can then apply to australian hospitals directly.

Dont approach recruitment agents. They are no more recruiting Indian guys withouy UK experience. So apply to hospitals directly. Go through Hospitals in each states in Australia and look for Jobs and apply. U should writ a nice CV. Complete IELTS with score of 7 and complete ACLS and Trauma training. This will be needed anyway. So if u have it ready now, things will be easy. Contact any of ur friends in UK/Australia to make a nice 4-5 page CV. Get some sensible professors as Referees in ur CV( preferably with MRCP etc,)> make sure these referees have email id and they open it regularly and they are keen to help u.

Once these hospitals shortlist u, they will call u over phone for an interview. It will be 45 minutes telephonic interview. conducted by atleast 2-3 people. They are not assessing ur core knowledge. They just want to make sure that u are a sensible and SAFE guy who will not harm patients. They will start with initial introduction and will discuss 3-4 clinical scenarios. It will include Ac MI, LVF, Ac Asthma, DKA, etc... Start with ABC,(airway, breathing, circulation) dont jump in to management. Answer cleverly and systematically. QUESTIONS WILL BE JOB SPECEFIC. THEY ALSO ASSESS UR ENGLISH. SPEAK NATURALLY WITHOUT ANY SPECIAL ACCENT. SPEAK SLOWLY< AND CLEALY. (SPEAK IN FRONT OF A MIRROR OR FRIEND AND RECORD it and practice.)

Go through John Murtagh textbook of General practice if possible before interview and read all emergencies.

BUT BEFORE INTERVIEW< MAKE SURE U READ ABOUT THE SELECTION CREITERIA AND REQUIREMENTS. AND do some research in the internet about The Hospital. Also expect questions like why do u want to come to Australia and whats ur aims and goals, why u chose this hospital etc.

After interview, if they select u, they will apply to Regional medical board for initial registration, VISA etc. HAve all your dcouments attested by a Notary and keep a copy scanned in a dicc.

From there u will be in a process of VISA etc.

I think its too much of informatrion now.

Any way, get some experience in Psychaitry or Emergency medicine if u only have MBBS.

However, dont worry, there are lots of guys here without PG. Keep applying to hospitals. I HAD APPLIED TO AT LEAST 300 places and got shortlisted at 2 places. SO prepare for that. Once u have an Australian job, things are diferent. Most hospitals will welcome u. Read all sections in RXPG. It really helped me when i started my Australia research in 2006. and now I am in Australia .

TAKE A BROADBAND INETERNET CONNECTION and buy a cheap printer. Spend some quality time in front of internet everyday, I am teling u from my personal experience.

There is another way. Get training in Family Medicine> they are offering in many hospitals now. And try for GP jobs in Australia . GP is not like in India. Its a speciality of its own. U treat wide variety of cases and make lots of money.

There is another route called AMC route. Complete AMC first part and then apply to hospitals. U choose which one is better for u.

Cheers
Bins

And without sitting idle at home with books, join some hospital. Even RMO in casualty is good enough to fetch u a job.

And finally, MAKE A NICE COVERING LETTER. MOST OF THE COMMUNICATIONS ARE BY EMAIL.
Your Covering letter should be specefic to the job applied. U shouldnt write all crap. Read the job description first and try to address them in ypour covering letter. Dont make the trick of making one covering letter and submit to different hospitals. That wil not help. Come on, Its hard work. No short cuts. If u work hard, it will pay u. SURE. Show the covering letter to a senior professional friend and an ENGLISH teacher and polish it.

THE COVERING LETTER WHICH YOU SEND BY E MAIL IS THE DECIDING FACTOR. IT SHOUD BE SMOOTH< FLOWING< WITH NO GRAMATICAL MISTAKES. THEY WONT EVEN LOOK IN TO UR CV if Covering letter is not good.

I AM Telling from my personal expertience.

HAVE A GOOD FAITH IN GOD. PRAY SOME TIME DAILY. I AM SURE IT WILL HELP. DONT LISTEN TO ALL THOSE people trying to DICOURAGE U. Many of them just pass a comment without knowing anything abt the subject.

Think urself what u want. Ofcourse u will be away from family and will have some initial problems in this new place, especially if u have never lived outside India. But if u succeed, Australia is a nice place to live.

I HAD LOTS OF people telling me that Australians are racist. Comeon, in the last few days that i am here, i found them warm and welcoming. But u should know how to behave. U feel more racism etc in our hostels back in India. We had problems between south indians and north indians, punjabis vs Biharis. That too very violent fights. See what is happening in Mumbai now. Our attitude should change first. We are too racist than Australians. These are lots of crimes in India against foreigners. Its a fact. SORRY IF I WAS TOO HARSH.

I was like u guys in 2006, looking at RXPG daily, without knowing what to do. I had PG experience. RXPG has helped me a lot. THANKS A MILLION.

Keep ur IELTS , ACLS ready. ACLS=Advanced Cardiac life support. Its conducted by American Heart Association. Many major hospitals have this course frequently. I had this at St.Johns Hospital Bangalore. They conduct it regularly. This will help and give confidence even in the interview.

I have a friend, who got a job in Psychiatry in Australia . But this unfortunate guy has not cleared his IELTS till now. So most importantly complete IELTS first. REMEBER THAT GETTING A JOB HERE IN Australia IS NOT EASY. ITS HARD WORK , HARD WORK< HARD WORK and and "Luck".

WHAT I FEEL IS getting some experience in Psychiatry , emergency medicine or family practice is the only option for guys with only MBBS. Or u should go by AMC route. (which takes long time.) Best is to get a job, come to Australia , know the system and write ANC if needed late. ALL THE BEST. I KNOW I AM REALLY SPOON FEEDING U GUYS>

But remember to share ur experience. Thats very important. There are lots of guys who never visit RXPG after getting a Job. Thats not good.

Good luck with ur job hunting. Cheers.

The jobs in Australia open up in MAy-July. Register in the medical recruitment websites. They will not help u, but u will get information abt the vaccancie by email. Few websites are LATTITUDES, PLEXUs, QUANTUM, IMR recruitment, SEEK etc.. Register in those sites. They will invarably write u that thay cant help u because u dont have UK experience. But signup for email alerts. U will get job notifications

Hi Bins. Thanks for all the details. They will surely be of help to many.
Could you please tell, are there any routes for registration with AMC without sitting the AMC exam.
I have heard that a couple of health board territories give exemption for registration to those who have passed PLAB , like queensland health board.
Thanks

Hi Online clinician,

There is a pathway called Competent authority pathway. But u should have finished UK training, not just PLAB . U can look up in AMC website. I am not sure abt it.
