SEE THE DISCUSSION ON NEXT THREAD 'CAREER IN MD PHARMA' N SUGESSIONS PUT BY DR.BOBO IS VERY VERY AUTHENTIC.MD PHARMA MAY HAVE INDUSTRY OPPORTUNITY IN WESTERN INDIA. BUT REGARDING TEACHING N DRUG INDUSTRIES IT IS WORTHLES IN WB.IF U THINK U'LL GET JOB IN WBMES FR TEACHING IT'S A DAY DREAM.GETTING CHANCE IN MES IS VERY DIFFICULT.SO NEVER OPT FR MD-PHARMA IN WB.BE CAREFUL.

rightly u said, gossip.MD in PHARMA is never a right choice fr west bengal candidates.because from point of teaching,it is completely hopeless n too much congestion is there in WB-MES,particularly in PHARMA,seats of demonstrators r already blocked by MBBS qualified young teachers, leaving no vacancies fr many yrs.posts of asst.profs r also not to get vacated in near future. If u belong to general caste,u'll get disappointed fr lack of vacancies in teaching. IF u r thinking of job in pharma companies,it is not easy also.it is completely business oriented.it will never suit to a medical candidate.so,opting fr MD in pharma is never a good decision in WB.

The best job right now for WBMES is Anatomy
.will get a minimum salary of 30K with taking only two classes a wk with no headache or tension.
Its in air that this pharmnaceutical market will be gradually taken by China. if its really true then its of no worth doing pg in pharma.

Hi everybody,I am in wbhealthservice, have completed MD,reading discussion here incidentally,as a senior experienced teacher my advice fr nonservice fresh young candidates-always go fr a good clinical diploma rather looking toward nonclinical subjects if u r not getting clinical degrees, even fr ladies candidates. because it is not a smooth entrance in WBMES fr even MD qualified nonservice candidates, getting job in teaching is very very difficult. so,it is not a good decision to take nonclinical degrees xcept patho.it is all out of my personal experience.good luck everybody.

hi..its true,MD pharma from most WB clgs are disappointing, that includes RG Kar & Burdwan. I also agree with gossip that chances of getting thru MES is very slim for general canditates (that includes me) n that pharma industry in WB is rudimentary ...so, if u have a better choice in clinical subjects, go for it.
i'm in final year from IPGMER n t state of affairs r little different here. Its not true that no clinical trials are being conducted in PG.Both me n my colleague r doing phase 4 trails as our thesis, mine is company sponsored. Also, all our juniors have similar trials as thesis topic. We have excellent faculty, who regularly conduct clinical trial. Also, in PG other depts (i mean, other than Phrmacology) do conduct lots of trials...pls have no misconceptions abt this.
recently we attended Pharmatech in KEM. it was very clear that apart from few reputed clgs like KEM. AIIMS
, PGI, JIPMER
n CMC Vellore
all other lesser known clgs across the states have this same problem with infrastructure...its not that only in WB we lack infrastructure...
clinical trials r conducted in pG n if u have genuine interest nobody is preventing u from attending workshops all over India, to update ur knowledge..so, while doing MD from PG atleast u will know t theory n some practical part of clinical pharmacoloy,if u r really interested...
i dont know of any clg that provides for placement in pharam industry.its another matter that t name works for reputed clgs...so, getting a job in industry will be difficult for sure...but, as far as doing MD is concerned atleast i'm enjoying mine thoroughly here in IPGMER

WIthout hurting ur sentiments and with all due respect to u I just want to asl u few questions.
1)U r saying that u r conductiong phase 4 clinical trails .As far as my knowledge goes phase 4 trials means post market surveillance and is mostly done by clinicians with very little or no role of pharmacologists .Pharmacologis r meant specially for phase 1 clinical trials. How many phase 1 trials r u conducting?
2) We all know from previous discussion in this thread that scope of teaching is much less comapared to other pre-para subjects and track record of joining a private pharma comapny after doing pharma from Bengal (including pg) is almost nil, so why should one take up pharma ?
3)U hv talked about that ur thesis is company sponsered. My question to u is what is the No of PGts in Pg and how many do get a sponsership. As far as my knowledge goes unless u have a very good connection its very difficult to get a sponsership.
4) u have told that no body will stop me in attending the seminars and workshops...Who will sponser me?I don't think after getting a sum of 8250 it is possible to go and attend workshops all over India unless u have a very rich background.
5) In our undergraduate days we have seen the faculty members.Do u think a massive change takes place in them when they teach post graduates.
6)Last but not least u have written that u don't know any of the colleges providing placements--thats ur ignornace...go and enquire at MAMC ,lady hardingeetc apart from the institutes u mentioned u'll get the ans.

Friends I am not not against pharma. But one must do it from reputed place. Unfortunately in west bengal there is not a single institute from pharma can be done with a expectation of good future.
And when "Sincere" a senior teacher is stating the hardcore real facts I don't no how is Tinni_79 holding a opposite view.
Before opting for pharma in Bengal (even SSKM) please go to the respective institutions , and check personally about the faculty members, labs and the opputuinities after passing out(the most Imp thing coz u can hv gala time for 3 yrs but what after that?).
