How to lock a S60 Symbian Phone?

Most important point: Never ever lock your phone via a PIN code.
Why because PIN codes are set by the Telecommunications company.
If you enter a wrong PIN code for 3-4 times, your Sim can get locked.
And it can be unlocked only by the Telecommunication provider.

There's a safer, stronger and easy way to lock your Symbian S60 phone.

icon_arrow.gif Go to your "Settings", Click "Security" and go to "Phone and Sim"

...

icon_arrow.gif Leave the PIN Code request alone. Dont change it.
Scroll down and your will see "Lock Code"

...

icon_arrow.gif Click the "Lock Code" and box will open. The default code will be 12345.
Change it to a new code. And don't forget to write down the code some where.
If you forget the code you will not be able to unlock the phone!!.

icon_arrow.gif After you have set the code exit the settings menu and come back to the main interface.

icon_arrow.gif Press the "Switch Off" button once, it will open a menu, Scroll down and you will see "Lock Phone".
Click on it, enter your code and your phone is locked!
You can recieve calls while the phone is locked but no one can access the menu or dial numbers.

Thanks pal.
Some more points.

Security Tip: 2

Your IMEI - Write it down in a paper asap

This is something you all must do asap (as early as possible)
IMEI is a number unique to every GSM and UMTS mobile phone.
It is usually found printed on the phone underneath the battery.
It can also be found by dialing the sequence *#06# into the phone.

The IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used to stop a stolen phone from accessing the network.
If a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to "ban" the phone using its IMEI number.
This renders the phone useless, regardless of whether the phone's SIM is changed.

So if your phone gets stolen you can always make sure the thief will never be able to use it or sell it.

Thanks pal.
You must be remembering how much trouble did an exchanged sim cause to Dr Haneef. (in Aus)
Reporting and Disabling a stolen mobile phone will prevent any such mishaps.

How much damage can a virus cause to a mobile?

Symbian Viruses

icon_arrow.gif Cabir Virus (works on Symbian Phones)
When a phone is infected with Cabir, the message "Caribe" is displayed on the phone's display,
and is displayed every time the phone is turned on.
The worm then attempts to spread to other phones in the area using wireless Bluetooth signals.
Its comparatively "Harmless". Doesn't cause much harm to the phone.

icon_arrow.gif Skulls virus (works on Symbian Series 60 phones)
Once infected, it replaces all the menu icons with images of a skull.
Renders all phone applications, including SMSes and MMSes useless!

icon_arrow.gif Commwarrior virus (works on Symbian Series 60 phones)
If it is run within the first hour of the 14th of any month, ComWar.A resets the cell phone. Spreads via mms and bluetooth.

icon_arrow.gif Dampig Virus (works on Symbian Series 60 phones)
Dampig pretends to be a crack for version 3.2 of the FSCaller application.
It damages the bluetooth application, system file manager, messaging applications and phonebook.

icon_arrow.gif Locknut (Gavno) virus (works on Symbian Series 60 phones)
Pretends to be a patch for Symbian Series 60 mobile phones.
It disables the phone from launching any program.

Pocket PC viruses

icon_arrow.gif Duts Virus (works on Pocket PCs)
Doesn't cause much harm. The only sign of infection is a window that asks a user if the code is allowed to spread.

icon_arrow.gif Brador Virus (works on Pocket PCs)
After installing it sends am email to the Virus Author. This email contains the IP address of the infected phone.
This virus enables the Virus author to remotely control the infected phone.

As I've mentioned earlier that I am using Bitdefender on my mobile, but I dont think its a trial version. Reason- I don't get any indicators like 'these many days remaining' or 'get registered'! I downloaded it from some site I dont remember, and it doesn't get updated on trying! Is it not fully active??
