Quick Scroll MBBS docs who want to switch to alternative pathways and sti 03.23.08 (6 months ago) #1

hi room
i am sure there are many like me who after completing their MBBS realise that their calling as a doctor is fading away and they want a less stressful life but equally paying.
so the alternative pathway is,instead of gambling with USMLE /PLAB /AMC or anything-do a 2 year masters course like public health, population health science etc from a good uni in Australia /Canada -it requires to have a bachelors degree in health or related field with 3 yrs of work experience in the related field including your housemanship/internship and jrship
after 2 yrs u are straight away eligible to apply for a PR/greencard and guess things are not so tough then
the cost is almost the same as that of USMLE
good uni in Aus are Queensland,Monash,Deakin etc
queensland and deakin have their uptake twice in a yr feb/july
so this might be an answer to some who are chasing a foreign dream but want to have fun at the same time
the best part is -for foreign trained doctors the policy might change anytime but for people with masters/phd from an australian local uni is still better and once ur a PR,the chances of you losing out is rare.
do revert if any more queries

hi friend yes they do post u in the "area of need" for the first few years...around 6-7 normally.and as u know most part fo aus is not so developed.so it would be tough.
but then later u have an option to move to the major cities but only if u have patience.
yes u do have a chance if u clear the first part of AMC and straight apply for jobs with ur score .and for aus u need IELTS score, not sure if they accept TOEFL

well the best unis are
1.national uni of Australia
2.uni of sydney
3.uni of queensland
well other unis like monash, deakin, wollongong are good and hold equal importance as all are govt run.they are given equal importance by employrs as well.
the degree should be atleast 2 yrs master course and should give u atleast 60 credit points on completion, this gives u eligibility of a permanent residency when u graduate and also u can apply for graduate skilled visa which allows u to stay for 18 months after graduation and look for a job.
people getting a visa after april 2008 can straightaway ork for 20 hours a week when the uni is on and unlimited hours on holidays.
so choose a course thats 2 yrs masters and give su atleast 60 credit points
u can also do two or more courses to fulfil this condition.

Quick Scroll IELTS 7 06.03.08 (4 months ago) #6

well for masters course an IELTS score of 7 with 6 in each module is sufficient
but if u score more than 7 altogether and 7 in each module u get 25 points in ur PR assessment
so the score is valid for 2 years and u must try to get atleast 7 in each module.
but the golden rule is...the higher the score the better the chances

well its better to choose a 2yr masters programme as it gives u 72 credit points at the end and thus makes u eligible for applying for a perminant resident status.
some unis like queensland and latrobe give a 1.5 yrs programme which doesnt make u eligible to apply for PR
so choose a 2 yr masters with atleast 60 credit points
finding a job is hard but its no impossible and all depends on ur hardwork and performance
the post of HEALTH ADMINISTRATOR does appear in their SODL list...so i guess one can find a job
