DUBAI: A group of Indian doctors employed with the Ministry of Health in Kuwait have alleged that despite of working for many years, they have not got any promotions as their degrees are yet to be evaluated.

The doctors alleged that they have been working for the ministry for over 10 years without having earned a single promotion, nor have they received much hike in their salaries, a media report said.

First Secretary at the Indian embassy in Kuwait, V Mahajan said that they will take up the matter with the concerned authorities.

Recently, 14 Indian doctors, who quit their jobs at the Ministry of Health last month, had said that the ministry had refused to pay them their indemnities since their degrees have not been evaluated.

The doctors claimed that the Ministry of Higher Education has stopped the practice of evaluation since 2002 after an Indian doctor's degree was found to be fraudulent.

What has baffled many Indian medics is the fact that the said doctor was hired by Kuwait's Ministry of Health as a consultant from India some six years ago, the Arab Times reported.

Soon after the ministry received a complaint against the accused, a committee was formed by it to authenticate his credentials. Upon evaluating his qualifications, the ministry found that the doctor had a Masters Degree and not PhD as claimed by him.

The doctors have also called upon NRI Commissioner Eduardo Faleiro to look into the matter.
