I have a 10 yrs multiple entry B2 visa. And if i have to go for some short term training for 2 months. Will I need a different visa like J1/F1. If am given a different visa like J1 or F1 whether my B2 still remains valid for the remaining years?

You need to contact the program you wish to join regarding your Visa status

I am told that I will need J1 visa. But my concern is if i take J1 now, which might expire in six months as my training will be short term for 2 months, will my B2 visa still remain valid if I wish to visit US anytime in future?

Hi drpankaj.

As far as my knowledge goes, one can hold more than one visa but you must enter the United with the appropriate visa consistent with your principal purpose of travel to the United States. i.e. if you are going for a training course for 2 months, you enter with your J1 visa.

Another thing I found was - "If you are going to the U.S. primarily for tourism, but want to take a short course of study of less than 18 hours per week, you may be able to do so on a visitor visa. You should inquire at the appropriate U.S. Embassy or Consulate." (US Dept of State - Visas)

So dont worry, you will not 'lose' your B2 visa even if you apply for J1. Yet again I would suggest that you check out the US visa website and/or send them an email and/or call them up and enquire.

Good Luck!

Hope this helps
