Quick Scroll Harrison 17th edition 06.05.08 (4 months ago) #1

Harrison 17th edition is out. Do you guys think we should get it at this time (5-6 months remaining for the d-day). Esp for a person like me who has never studied harrison in ug days and now also use it for reference. Pls advise esp the seniors/rankers. Is it must to get the new edition or just read the 16 th edition itself.

i think it is not possible for one person to read all the book one and alone so it is possible only if we share the responsibility chapter wise...

Here are a few options
1- combination of the latest Davidson's and CMDT 08 is a good alternative to reading Harrison's 17th Edition.
2- The new edition has about 2600 pages. I read the Harrison's myself (the 16th was the one I prepared with and the 17th is no different in terms of page size and content). The average speed for going thru Harrison's is about 8 pages per hour if you read between the lines and mark important points on the page. 2 and 1/2 hours a day will mean 20 pages a day and 1/2 hour revision of all that has been marked while perusing the pages earlier in the day ensures revision and ensures continuity for the next day. leaving a few unnecessary topics at the end of volume 2 in about 110 days one should be able to read all of Harrison's 17th and also revise to a limited extent.
A second proper reading can be planned at the end of the year which will be very fast because you will only be going thru the points marked earlier.
This worked well for me. Hope it works for others too. But the one thing that you need all the time is to stick to reading 2 and 1/2 hours a day without fail come what may and revising for 1/2 hour at the end of the day before going to sleep.
Not just of Harrison's, but I recommend revising all that has been read during the whole of the week be revised on the last day of the week (Sunday) (actually it works the best day for those who are attending coaching classes because they will not be let with any energy to read new topics after returning from the classes and revision will be a lot easier).

One way of sharing info and responsibility is for someone to but the new Harrison's. It comes with a DVD which contains the necessary info and also access to accesmedicine.com content which has all of Harrison's on it. Share the Sign In IDs and passwords. Each one gets to read a bit even if he or she doesn't own a Harrison's and will share info in return. It should work that way. Someone needs to try.
