Dear Dr bgm!
my computer got shut down during power cut and after that it is showing a screen message everytime thatt your cpu settings are changed press f1. What seems to be the problem?? last time i had reinstalled the entire microsoft word .Every software person comes and charges and fixes temporaril. is it a grave problem? plz help asap.

Is that exactly what you see? In order to better view that is there and other messages, you could press "Pause" when it is on that screen... two or three trials might be required before you hit pause at the right moment to see what is in that screen.

Read it and note it down and kindly post all messages (not the master slave drives data.. but something that says like error, press f1 and two or three lines before and after it, if any).

The most common cause could be that the power cut caused some bizarre change in the clock settings, perhaps. Or damaged the battery on the motherboard.

You could try the following and if the problem is not resolved, then post what error message you see later as explained above:

Go into BIOS. During boot process it can be got into by pressing <DEL> button usually. Or you might find prompt when it is booting (press <button name> for BIOS settings etc;

There will be some prompts in the bottom of the screen or right side of the screen saying something like "F10 to save and exit, F5 to restore default settings, f9 to "do-something" etc;. If you have something like "restore to previous settings" press the corressponding key. Else press the one that says "restore to factory settings or restore to default settings" and remember to use the key that corresponds to "save and exit".

It will restart and you should possibly not have any issues thereafter.

Statutory warning:
Changing BIOS settings might render your computer unbootable if anything is done wrong.

What I have mentioned is safe but still.... I am bound to give you the warning.

Another reason why you are getting these messages is that there is a battery (something like watch battery in a larger size) for the mother board that runs the CPU clock and such essentials for boot up process etc;. That battery might have discharged fully. Changing the battery might also be a solution at times. To change the battery you might have to open the case and you will see a "round" batter somewhere in the motherboard. It is held by a latch like mechanism mostly and can be undone by just moving the latch away from its position so as to free the battery and it comes popping up out.

Take the battery to the electrical shop and get one the same way and install the new battery with regard to polarity (changing + and - hasnt caused much problems for me once but it could be disastrous at times and it is best avoided in any electronic devices including CPUs, Digital Cameras and such!)

I agree with Akil's view.
It can be due to a faulty CPU battery.
When we switch off the power this battery maintains the CPU settings.
Its costs some where around <Rs100/-
We can replace that battery ourselves. If you are confident you can try yourselves.

However, if you are not well accustomed with your CPU, i would recommend that you should call some one from the computer care centre to have a look at the CPU.
