MCI Site regulations for Post Graduation mention the following:
"All candidates joining the Post Graduate training programme shall work as full time residents during the period of training, attending not less than 80% (Eighty percent) of the training during each calendar year, and given full time responsibility, assignments and participation in all facets of the educational process."

I Recently joined MS General Surgery in one of the known colleges in Mumbai and have been doing residentship and training since past one month.
Now residentship in this hospital means working 20 hours a day, seven days a week with no holidays...
I wanted to find out on what is MCI or MMC regulation for residentship. Legally speaking how many hours of work is required to be done by each resident every day and how many days a week..

Is there a regulation which lists on how Residents should be treated and what work they are supposed to do in clinicals.

Also has anyone had similar experience as resident working 20 hours a day continuously without any day off?

Also are there any guidelines on how residents be kept and kind of accomodation to be provided.

In nutshell does anyone have any information on regulations or has tried to break through such work culture?

Any information would help.

Regards

hi dear ,
i dont know about M.S. and MCI regulations regarding working hours...but a DNB trainee is supposed to work 8 hours a day ,decided by NATIONAL BOARD OF EXAMINATION (NBE), and it may be extended for emergency cases when needed..
and also accomodation is provided by the hospital bcoz trainee pays 10000 rs per anum for that.
so things are better with NBE than MCI.
I would search for MCI rulings..
take care
