Quick Scroll I appered in the USMLE step-2CS 07.02.08 (3 months ago) #1

This time I did everything and was very confident.
Went in with a standard protocol.
asked for permission before entering.
Used the patient's name and asked if i used it correctly.
Smiled.
introduced with confidence.
used open ended questions.
spoke slowly.
used simple words.
summarised correctly.
Did not ask them to repeat what they had said.
asked if they want to add anything else.
used transitions
did closing
asked permissions before touching or untying the gown.
tied the gown back.
adressed their concerns by answering their questions.
asked them for any questions they have.
expressed appropriate empathy.
gave ongoing support
did quick examination and gently.
touched all the main points and headings in the history.
Counselled on smoking, alcohol, htn, diabetes, sexual hx,allergies when required.
During my exam the folowing happened:

One SP said to me before leaving,"u were fine"

Another SP thanked me before I left the room.

One SP started to laugh as I was examining her chest, because I said,"If my hand too cold, then I will warm it."

Another SP was concerned about my time and was trying to convey to me that I wash my hands as I had asked a good and sufficient history.

I made one of my SP's laugh in a telephone encounter when I repeated what she had said about her husband,"My husband travels a lot" I said
,"and your husband also travels a lot".

SO, ALLAH WILLING I HAVE A VERY GREAT HOPE OF PASSING AND I WILL PASS INSHA-ALLAH.

thanks a lot,

Dear, keep one thing in mind that step-2cs is not an easy exam .i do not want to discourage you.but i only want u to understand its importance.

Prepare for it as u prepare for other USMLE steps.but, one thing is to be added and that is PRACTICE ,PRACTICE.Because in this exam u have to interact with humans.
Prepare at least for a month.First aid is a good book for clinical information particularly minicases. just memorise the common minicases.Read the first few pages of the First Aid on which questions r written.use these questions or other simple ones.
USMLE world is also very good.

Even one can join coaching for the CS,if one wants to interact with standardised patients .This instills a lot of confidence.
Speak slowly and listen carefully, and smile except when the patient is in severe distress or depressed.
Some say that do not shake hands when going in because our hands are not presumed clean before hand washing.
Greet with a smile and warmly.Be cool thro' the encounter.
Always maintain eye contact.
Never take a detailed history.Touch all parts of the encounter ie., closing as well. Do nt use medical terms.if used explain them immediately.

Be in the USA atleast 15 days before exams ,so that u get adaped to this country.
About the MSPE,you need to go to each department of your medical school, and get their remarks regarding u along with the seal and signature of the heads of the departments. After this your medical school will issue u with a document which is signed by the DEAN/PRINCIPAL of your school, and which certifies all these remarks and comments.

If LORs r the most recent that is excellent,if not then your old ones can also work.

Sincerly,

Job
