Quick Scroll What to do after clearing ur FMGE ??what options do we have?? 07.13.08 (4 months ago) #1

Hi guyz..Im doin my intern at the moment n want to ask tht wat kinda options do we hav after gettin registered here in India....wat i hav seen i think tht its gr8 for ppl who hav family H/O of docs n can afford to open a PP in some time...but wat bout guys like us who r the lone docs in the family n hav so much pressure from our family with their increasing anxiety bout ur carrers...where r we heading???what when we do ur intern.we can try for PG ok tht too i think so we'll hav to sit for 6 mnths n study...no gurantee tht we will get good clinical fields...next option is do a JRship ,but seein the way docs r treated ( no matter ur a fmg or an Indian doc),its gonna be hard for every1..n money too is also nothin to die for!!!!!why do docs who r working so hard to keep the country fit n healthy cant get enuf support from govt..
so while workin nw..wat i hav felt is tht its better to go ahead n try for somethin esle like MPH, MBA or MLE...etal.....but so much confusion n tension in head as this the most important step in our lives..just want to knw wat bout these options ...hw good they r in the long run....becoz working here in India if ur not plannin to open a PP i bet is gonna be like hell for sure..plz help a co fmg from this situation.....

u seem to b an overworked intern...calm down a bit...
mle is the best if u still want to continue the med field..else mph etc are gud to earn..clinical research etc r also the options...
is it really a bad condition of intern docs in india??
hw many hours do u work...do u have fellow interns to share the work??????

hi...well yes the condition is very poor,if u havnt found a jack while doin ur intern...i mean some ppl hardly go for their duties but if ur workin in a good govt hospital thts not possible!!!!
I daily work for 9-10 hrs plus nite duties n ward calls ...so its very hectic...n i dnt get paid nethin for it...wat do u think r the JR or PG gettin big money?? no they r not...so we struggle for wat??i think its better to try for somethin new...new horizons in life....where we can earn more with the same amount of hard work.

Quick Scroll humble advice !!! 07.18.08 (4 months ago) #8

hi varzel !!!

its a nice thread and hope it becomes inspiration for all new comers .

i dont know from where ever you have studied but the situation in india in medical sector is very chaotic and worst specially for the FMGS ......i dont know about the indian medical graduates for the indian health care sysytem is the best in the world and they love this belief . i dont consider it to be great as i am myself a medical doctor .

let me tell you one thing when i was in the final year of graduation i made up my mind that i will head for my next goal after i passed the screening test . i never turned down my decisions and i follow it till i achieve them .

i passed my screening test in 1st attempt last year few months back got my permanent registartion also but i realized many situations about indian medical system and decided to take the best path .

my parents are not medical doctors and i was the only son from my family who became medical doctor and went abroad . i will tell you some
realities .......

- indian system is good for those who have studied in india as when you will do PG in indian system 90% of the hospitals who conduct pg dont have proper teaching methodlogy for residents .......they will never teach you new things and new researchs as there is lot of envy and superiority
complx problem in indian system specially among indian doctor .....most of the indian medical doctors are not encouraging and cooperative like western part .

- most of indian proffessors will always teach you what was taught 10 years back , they dont go for conferences or seminars , most of them dont do new courses on CME basis so how you will learn new things .....no indian doctor can give me answer to it .

- rest during residency of 3 years what you r paid nuts 10000 bucks / month for 3 years may be if you r from a wealthy background your parents may help you somehow .

- most of the indian hospitals are community hospitals .......they are not superspeciality hospitals like AIIMS etc .......so you will learn less in any Goverment hospital when you will do PG than in a superspciality like you might have seen abroad which might be having dialysis unit , CCU , transplant center , diabetology medical center , neuro rehabilitation center but most of the good goverment hospitals dont have that ......so ,
what type of specialist you will be ???
c having lot of patients in goverment hospitals doesnt make you a good specialist but a wide variety of rotations in different centers and
proper teaching in grand rounds and seminars makes you a sharp and succesful specialist ?

- also , indian MD , MS is not recognized any where in the developed countires with good medical standard like ........US , UK , GERMANY , Australia etc.......so what the logic of doing that .

- also , i still say that if you have graduated from a european country ,
they will definitely be having a good standard and wont it hurt your inner conscious that if you have to work in a low level of health system .

this is all my person experience what i have gained from doing internship in india ......i worked in a goverment medical college attached hospital ........learnt a lot of things and had heavy work load but these
were some hard realities what i came to know so i am shearing with you all . i dont care whether any FMGS agree with me or not .......its there personal approach .
----------------------------------------

if you dont have your hospital or clinic of the parents or if you r from a middle class family .........who has big aspirations in life ........and you want to do something on your own so ...........

best options FMGS like you are in today time ......

1) USMLE exam

2) IRISH MEDICAL LICENSATE exam

3) AUSTRALIAN MEDICAL LICENSTAE exam

------------------------------------------------------------

THESE THREE EXAMS ARE THE BEST PRIORITIES AND EASY APPROACHABLE FOR YOU AS AN FMG IF YOU WANT TO DO
SPECIALIZATION FROM HIGHER MEDICAL STANDARD COUNTRY
AND BE THE BEST ONE DAY MAY BE 5 YEARS FROM NOW
SELECT 1 OF THEM AND DONT LOOK BACK BUT PLEASE
CONFIRM THE EXPENSES AND LICENSE FEES , TRAVEL ETC TO
THESE COUNTRIES FROM THE OTHER FORUMS .

so visit the forums of these countries and start studying from internship
onwards and keep a positive attitude ......can you beleve i have 10 seniors of mine who cleared indian screening test and after that
did there internship and also , cleared the USMLE all the steps and now are in US , 3 cleared PLAB also . so , dont give up those were all like you one day but they never gave u and passed the toughest medical licenstae exam of the world ie USMLE . with the financial help from parents and there hardwork , they are working in the best hospitals abroad after passing various exams .

c if you can pass the screening test than definitely you have the brain to
pass any medical license exam of the world . i cant bet that with you .

rest you may still be having options of studing PG in india but its for those who love to be always in india and want to be close to there motherland
but believe me if you want to be achiever in life and among the best medical doctors its better to study for specialization abroad . also , indian pg exam is very cheap while exams like USMLE , AMCE or IRISH exams
costs more and its better you should inform your parents how much it costs and become intouch with soemone who passed any of this exam .
so, they you see your pocket also .

also doning MBA and MPH are all crap and i dont like such business .....
being a medical doctor means something in society every otjer person in india is MBA nowadays .

so , there is a phase of struggle in everyones life but god will bless you
with good deeds also .

.....................................................................

so , cheer up and start working hard for your next target . actually there are many FMGS out there in various countires who think that they have great life in india but its a great struggle in the mad crowd . so , plan your future in advance else there is a lot of trouble .

.............................................................................................
