hi guys!!
i dont how many of u know about it but todays TOI(delhi edition) brings on yet another hurdle in our already long course towrds success with AIPGE
n the rest.....
the headline screams "ONE YEAR RURAL STINT A MUST BEFORE MD,MS ; RULE TO APPLY FROM NEXT YEAR"
it says that from next year a one year stint in the village will be a mandatory requirement for mbbs students before they can apply for a postgraduate degree in india!!
so while they had to scrap the idea of making it mandatory with the internship they have gone ahead n now made it mandatory after internship....
it goes on to say that the govt has decided to SPARE students applying for PG degrees in courses like Anatomy
,Biochemistry
n Physiology
as THE COUNTRY IS FACING AN ACUTE SHORTAGE OF STUDENTS OPTING FOR SUCH COURSES" (how convenient!!)
it is also not to apply to those who complete the PG course from a foregin university....
the modalities of implementation are to be worked out once the proposal is cleared.
this has left me totally confused n disheartend.....even if its not applicable form the next session it will be the session after that.....
why are we being forced to do the rural posting?if it wasnt then its now,or if it isnt now it will be tommorrow.....
why is life becoming more miserable......why cant they make the rural posting lucrative?"a monthly stipend of rs.10000 will be paid". i mean wow!!
and another mentions that less than 50% of posts in CHCs n PHCs are occupied...and 67% of doctors enrolled for rural posting remain absent from duty.....so isnt the whole purpose defeated........as they say "u can take a horse to water but u cant make it drink"................

well in Maharashtra
there is already a condition in place for appearing for any pg entrance exam, one year mo ship or a bond of one lakh after which you get a bond release certificate which states that you are eligible for appearing for any pg entrance. i dont think such a bond exist or is enforced in other states. i hope atleast ppl in my state who have already broken this bond are exempted from this. anyway yet another headache fr everyone thnx to the stupid govt.

Exactly!..even i am not gettin...what do they mean by next academic year??
if MCI puts a seal on to it this yaer, and if it hs to apply to all those applying for pre pg exams nxt year..then i guess the Major lot(the freshers!) lot wont be eligible..infact not only the fresher`s lot but even the senior`s lot(coz they shud hve had done the 1 year rural stint too!!)
so, infact, that wudmake a very loose competition...competition wud be admist only those students who jus cmpleted...the rural stitnt luckkkily??
..!!!!!
Cud anyone please call these rocking MCI guys..to know the details?!:
it reallly sucks!!

TOI delhi edition wrote,
From next year, a one-year stint in the villages will be a mandatory requirement for MBBS students before they can apply for a postgraduate degree in India.
Reviving the proposal that was earlier shelved following nationwide protests by medical students, the Union Health Ministry has just sent the final proposal for a compulsory rural stint to the Medical Council of India for approval.
Once it approves the proposal, MCI will have to make changes in its regulation defining who is eligible to apply for a PG medical degree in India.
Officials made it clear that the rule will apply from the next academic year.
The government has, however, decided to spare students applying for PG degrees in courses like Anatomy
, Biochemistry
and Physiology
‘‘as the country is facing an acute shortage of students opting for such courses’’.
If an MBBS doctor completes his PG course from a foreign university, he can come back and practise provided the PG degree is recognized in India. In such cases, the mandatory rural stint will not be applicable.
According to officials, MBBS doctors will have to spend four months each in a primary health centre, community health centre and district hospital. They will be paid a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000.
A ministry official said that a plan to make the one-year internship programme a mandatory part of the five-and-a-half-year MBBS course has been shelved.
‘‘We had also thought that doctors who don’t work in the villages will not be given their registration to practice. However, the new proposal says that only when a medical student has served one year in rural India and holds an MBBS degree will he be eligible for a PG degree.’’
According to the official, the stipend will be paid by the states from their National Rural Health Mission funds. ‘‘These doctors will be accommodated to serve in various schemes under NRHM.’’
Officials say the recommendation actually came from a high-level committee set up by Health Minister A Ramadoss which was headed by Dr Sambhava Rao, vice-chancellor of NTR University of Health Sciences.
When announcing the committee, Ramadoss had said, “The government has subsidized medical education in India. While studying in private colleges may cost Rs 4 lakh, the annual tuition fee of a medical student in a government college is just Rs 4,000 in Tamil Nadu. In AIIMS
, it is just Rs 210 while in JIPMER
it is Rs 125. So by asking them to serve India’s poor for just a year, we aren’t asking too much. Moreover, the stint will help them gain experience.’’ So they will apply it for all govt. & private college medical students in india after approval of proposal by MCI.
So for eligibility to apply for any pg course you should have
A RECOGNISED MBBS DEGREE + ONE YEAR RURAL POSTING.
