Quick Scroll Need for MCCQE 1 scores before beginning residency 10.15.08 (1 month ago) #1

Hi All,

My question is " Is it necessary to clear MCCQE1 before you beging residency in July? " As we all know that Carms allows applicants registered for EE and those with scores of EE to go thru the match ....but if we get succesful in getting a spot with only EE scores ....is it mandatory to give the rest of the exams?

Can the QE1 and QE2 be given during residency?

Check the program descriptions on the carms homepage, they tell you what they want you to have before residency (it is often the ACLS training).

I have not read about MCCQE1 anywhere, so my guess is you don't have to.

Better check for yourself though. And unless you have a very very good MCCEE1 score and/or know people in Canada , chances without QE1 are rather low.

EE is the only mandatory exam. But I wouldn't go by what is mandatory on paper. CE1 is also not mandatory, yet they do look for those scores.

Even if you did apply with only EE and got a spot, you would still have do to QE1 afterwards. You have to have an Attendant sign off on your prescriptions until you have passed QE1.

Bottom line: the only exam you may be exempt from is the provincial assessment. You cannot bypass anything else.

I think for EE, what is considered a 'good' score starts at 350 (mean).

Yes, at some point you will have to have done QE1 and QE2.

The MCCEE mean is 250... I would say a good score starts around 300. But it is really your overall presentation that counts: Scores, experience, observership, letters of recommendation. Try to make yourself look like the best person ever to walk on this earth while staying honest and realistic.

thanks herrdok..
i was so worried when i saw that a good score is 350.
however;
u mentioned that the MEAN is 250. i think the PASSING SCORE is 250 and the mean is about 270 - 275.
good should be from 300.

Sorry, I made a mistake regarding MCCEE score. Here is the quote from their homepage:

mean score of the cohort is 271, the standard deviation is 50, and the pass mark is 250

Regarding USMLE2 CK and QE1: Quite similar in content. USMLEWORLD helps for practice for QE1. QE1 questions are a lot shorter and give you sometimes only very little information to base your decision on. I think USMLE questions are better designed. Practising them will definitely help you for QE1, just don't be surprised at the actual exam that there are some differences in style.
