About the day
October 14, 2008 will be (was the) the world’s first Open Access Day.
The founding partners are SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition), Students for FreeCulture, and the Public Library of Science (PLoS).
Open Access Day will help to broaden awareness and understanding of Open Access, including recent mandates and emerging policies, within the international higher education community and the general public.
History: Open Access Day was inspired by the National Day of Action on February 15th, 2007, led by Students for FreeCulture with support from the Alliance for Taxpayer Access. This year, the same partners have joined forces with the Public Library of Science, the open-access scientific and medical online publisher.
Building on the worldwide momentum toward Open Access (OA) to publicly funded research, Open Access Day will create a key opportunity for the higher education community and the general public to understand more clearly the opportunities of wider access and use of content.
OA is a growing international movement that uses the Internet to throw open the locked doors that once hid knowledge. It encourages the unrestricted sharing of research results with everyone, everywhere, for the advancement and enjoyment of science and society. For example, this issue has been especially highlighted for the field of biomedical research and health care.1 OA is the principle that publicly funded research should be freely accessible online, immediately after publication, and it’s gaining ever more momentum around the world as research funders and policy makers put their weight behind it.
It signals a fundamental change in the way that information is flowed from writers to readers and an admission that the traditional publishing process is obsolete in the digital age. We live in a world where people expect instant information in the top 20 hits from a Google and that expectation is transferring the science too. It doesn’t matter how prestigious your journal is. People want information, they want it now! And if you can’t deliver, they are going somewhere else.
What can I do? It’s very simple, try to submit articles to OA journals and review papers for them. Next, spread the world. There is plenty of stuff the faculty, librarians, Universities, administrators and even Research Funders can do to promote OA.

Not right now, but we are trying to do that. Plus we are going to add alot more articles that would be open access.
Since alot of researchers that IOMC accepts is not publicly funded, its quite a challenge to offer it free.
But some of the researchers give us permission to use their articles and researches as seminars and educational programs for free.

I formally invite you to attend the seminars/workshops and view the articles on the website. We are having our seminars from two weeks from now. I shall give an update about it soon in this forum.
It's a non-profit based website, and everyone who works there are volunteers, including me. I do not recieve any pay or any incentives to advertise about it here.
We are trying to promote activities by offering free educational sessions.
It's free ofcourse.

This looks like a great list! Thank you so much for the hard work!
Is it possible to divide these into subject wise? We can make different threads for them then. There are 100s of journal out here in the US too.
I would soon add a comprehensive list of journals ( top ranking ones) and a number of websites to explore research articles. And also websites that rank journals.

yes. i think it's a good idea to divide them up topic wise ..infact, they can be categorized first according to the subject, then by country and listed within that category by their ranking. ofcourse, this will take some time, i'll start right away.
