people who are preparing for the exams.. this is specially for you.. as you are preparing for the exams.. please strengthen your resume by doing some research and volunteer work.. it is just a one day per week commitment.. but it is very important to have a good competitive profile...
so i will tell you people how i got into it.. so i hope it helps those who want to get in too..
just go to the www dot uhn dot ca
go to the research section.. go to researcher profiles... there u will find a thousand researchers affiliated with university of toronto.. plz email them ur resume and your request, stating tht u r preparing for mccee or mccqe1,as the case may be.. and u r very much interested in research.. so to give u an opportunity for voluntary research assistant...
trust me.. u dont have to send to all researchers... i just sent to 15.. and i have already got into 2 positions at toronto western and toronto general hospitals...
so give it your shot... there r many vacancies.. and they just expect a one day per week commitment... and wht more.. u can get a letter of reference directly from your consultant at the end of your commitment.. so it is of lot benefit...
hope it helps
best of luck

Psapra,

Cancer Care Manitoba and the Institute of Cell Biology have a research training program, just search for ITMHRT. Or go the university / cancer care homepage and look up the principal investigators and then contact them.

That is very good advice.

Also, participate in health fairs around different communities in the country.
Geriatricians tend to be heavily involved in meeting seniors at different senior events to provide health information advice informally.

It shows active participation to both medicine and to your community.

to medyx... ya i matched to toronto- family med.. so i basically resigned from the post of tht voluntary research.. but i did not get a letter .. .i used the lor's i brought from pakistan... but its good enough coz its from a canadian physician and also research based.. its better then that of a pure voluntary job... so i suggest people to do it
sorry for being late in replying... im a lil busy preparing for the qe1 exam and also doing the pre-residency program at cehpea...
if u have more questions.. feel free to ask plz
