Q. Factor V is required for growth of :

1. Haemophillus

2. Staphylococci

3. Neisseria

4. All of above

I know its Haemophillus that requires factor V for its growth……….but ans. given is 4 !

answer is indeed all of the above. though we know that factor V and factor X requirement is for haemophilus, but if you see micro book( paniker), it is given that it is required by staph and neisseria also.

it is given in haemophilus chapter, says that satellitism is routinely done for haemophilus but is not very specific as it will be positive also with other factor V requiring haemophili as well as with occasional strains of staph, neisseria and diphtheroids.

good one, smita! I also didn't know this..

also know that haemophilus requires factor V.. The strains that require both factors V(NAD) & X(protoporphyrin) are H. influenzae & H. aegypticus..

it is a well known fact that factor X and V are required for the growth of Haemophilus and Neisseria .
That is the reason why they grow well on Chocolate agar and not on Blood agar
About Staphyloccoccus just checked they also require the factors
