I have a very very basic query. I used 'online services' of IWA to get ECFMG identification number & the password 9 days back. I have not received any email from ECFMG/ IWA telling my identification number. They have said that one gets this number within 5 working days.

What should I do now?

Please guide me.

I suggest you wait another week, ECFMG is currently busy with the residency application process.

Hello Sir,

I am a final year mbbs student. Without knowing that failing in step 1 is black mark I was forced to take the exam during my 1st year by my parents and I failed. But then I came to know it is going to be no success path for me to get a residency in usa. But still I want to pursue residency in usa. If so, what are my chances of getting a IM residency in usa. I will do electives for at least 3 months in usa during my internship, and will retake step 1. I am very depressed about my situation. Please help.

Hi
i finished my MBBS in 2008 and then MD in 2013. I am currently doing DNB in Gastroenterology. I want to go to US for Clinical Hepatology/Transplant Hepatology Fellowships post my DNB.

I havent given USMLE yet. Please guide me on the application process

Firstly regarding ECFMG certification application.
What all forms will i need?
Form 186 is to be signed only by dean or can be signed by any gazetted officer?

Then transcripts are needed now on when applying finally for Certificate after passing the steps?

Please guide me through the step by step application process.
regards

The process is

You regsiter with ECFMG and generate form 186
Fill it and get it signed by your college
send this along with a photocopy of your MBBS degree, and few other forms to the ECFMG on behalf of your college
In three weeks your form will get accepted
You can register for the steps and will the exam in any order
Also during this time the ECFMG will send a form and your degree back to your college for verification, you don't need to worry about this step, its all between your college and ECFMG.
So by the time you're taking the steps all this take care of itself and you;ll get ECFMG certiied.
hi thanks for the reply...

do i need to get it signed by my dean of MBBS college only or present institute or any class 1 gazetted officer will do??

Well you can get it signed by a gazetted officer but that can only be done if you're living in a different city from your medical college.

Yes thank you...I live in a different city now...I did my mbbs from maharashtra and now I live in Delhi. ..so that's why asked this question...any ideas on hepatology fellowship??..can that be directly obtained without gastroenterology residency in US. ..??...

I have been a pretty average or slight average student. Do High School or Higher Secondary Percentage matter? Or for that matter even, mbbs aggregate scores matter a big deal?
If you get a decent score in all the steps, will it be enough to get a seat even without any LOR or Research papers?
Also, is there viva Vocé during any of the steps? Sorry about these rookie questions.

I hope i am not too late..!!
Hello Dr. Scared..First of, hearty congratulations to you on this great achievement.
I have almost completed my internship. Another 20days remaining, which I will finish
in February. I am currently preparing for Indian PG exams. But off late I have been
having 2nd thoughts about this.I am interested in pursuing Psychiatry or Dermatology.
I want to appear for USMLE steps once I am done with my remaining 20 days. I have a
few questions in mind. I will be very grateful to you if you helped me out with this.

1) I am planning to start preparation in April2016. Ideally, how many months should
I put into preparation for match in 2017. If not 2017, then 2018 match.
2) When should I do my Electives/externship/observership in USA? (Which one of these will I be eligible for once I am done with my internship?)
3)Is it mandatory to do research work and publish it, whether in india or usa.?
4)What are other options apart from research work to improve my CV for matching
into the desired field.?
5)Compared to other fields, is it to get into psychiatry/Dermat.?
6)When should I ideally complete Step 3?

It would be great if you helped me plan out a complete schedule for this. I have looked
through other sites and blogs too, but I haven't collected concrete information regarding
my doubts.

Awaiting your reply.
Than you.

Hi sir,
I am a post intern, completed my internship in march 2015, I want to give USMLE, but I have a few queries, some of them may sound silly, but please help me out.
I am a bit confused about the timeline. when does the application comes out? Or could we just pick any dates as we want as soon as we register.
Is it possible to complete all steps in 1 calender year?
Is it necessary to have some research or work experience? Is it necessary to do some clinical work in America? If so for how long do we need to stay in America?
Being a post intern with a gap year with no research experience is it even sensible to start preparing now? I've heard that it's better to give the steps during internship. will it reflect poorly on my application?
Do we have to pay for any tution fee etc during residency?
Do we nees to get credits from college? is internship certificate enough? or do we need credits for 2nd 3rd 4th year postings as well?
what are the documents required to apply?
do we need original degree? what if the university hasn't yet given out the degrees.
are there any interviews, English language exams etc besides the steps?
It's November 2015 now, can you please guide me to make a timeline.
I've heard that even a good score can't guarantee you a residency, is that true?
do we get any accommodation facilities like hostel etc during residency?
what are the total expenses? fee, study materials, clerkships etc
How to get letter of recommendation? Should they have to be from a university in America?
Do we need to prepare a CV/ resume? before applying or before residency?
What books to read for each step?
Will it be at all sensible to prepare for Usmle along with Indian pre PG exams as a failsafe?

hi ,
i have personally done MRCP part 1 and passed it, now moving onto usmle.

mrcp exams are not recognized officially in the us. however, they value your cv if you have FULL MRCP registration, i.e. pass even PACES.

however, studying for mrcp will make step 2ck and 2cs and 3 much easier to pass.

step 1 you will need to focus, because preclinicals are asked.

Congratulations on your score. I think you should do your elective during the vacation you have after your final year exam and before start of your internship . plan for your step 2 cs at the same time. Good luck.
