Hi, you will need USMLE to do a residency in the US. YOU can work as a research assistant, that does not require MLE or you can do a Phd, but thats quite long.
Good luck

Sir,
I have completed my MD in ped this year. It's my long time dream to be in USA & study there. I know it's late but still my dreams are still on. Earlier there were some financial problems but now I have sorted the things.
Please let me know if it is necessary to be in USA to for passing clinical exam.
And the money I have to spend on coaching & for staying there.

Looking forward to your reply.
Thanking you

Well you have a good chance of matching in Pathology.
But I suggest that you try giving the steps during your PG because once your graduation period becomes more than 5 yrs its get tougher to match.
But if you can finish all steps with decent scores then given your added experience in pathology, I'm sure you can match into pathology.

Hello

Yes, it is necessary to be in the US to give your clinical exam.
The amount you spend depends on where you are going to stay, I mean which city and whether you have relatives there.
But I think the maximum that you will be spending for your accommodation and food for one month is around $600-800.
Books are - Kaplan notes, First Aid
Online question bank is UWORLD, this is a must.

Good luck

Thanks for your prompt reply. For clinical exam for how many days I have to stay there? Is it helpful to take Kaplan coaching in the US itself for the clinical exam? If so, then for how many days I have to stay there approx?
These books u have mentioned, are they available online in Amazon or med book shops? Or I have to to take Kaplan classes from the very beginning?
Thank u.

Hey this thread has helped me answer a lot of my questions regarding the USMLE. Thank you so much.

I am planning to appear for step 1 right after my internship in 2018

Wanted to know the difference between an elective and an observership ? And is it okay if I go for my elective/observership during my internship without having appeared for my step 1 ?

How many months of US clinical work experience is recommended ?

How many months prior to the elective/ observership program do I need to apply ? Heard that it has to be done a year prior to the program.

Could you suggest a couple of colleges that I could apply to for electives/observerships where the chances of getting a LOR are greater ?

Thank you once again.

Hello
You need to register with ECFMG paying a $60-70 fee and then you will be able to generate a form 186 . Fill that , get it signed by your dean and then ask your college to courier it to ECFMG or you courier on behalf of your college, giving your college address as the from address.
Your form will then get verifieed in three weeks and after that you will be able to register for step 1.
Good luck.

I think first you should finish your steps and then do the observership , because if scores are not good enough then the observership would not hold any value.

Well, it's possible. 30% foreign graduates match into surgical fields.
If you have good scores, LoRs, try build contacts during oberverships and some research. All this will get you surgery.

Hi
Yes , once you pay for the initial ECFMG registration , you will be able to generate form 186 ( this applies if you've graduated or are very close to your graduation like in weeks ) or else form 184. Get the form 184 signed by your university and send it to ECFMG on their behalf.
Your form will get verified in 3 weeks and it will be valid for 5 years, you can finish all your steps during this time.
Also once you get your medical diploma, send it to ECFMG and they will contact your college directly for further correspondence.
Remember, all documents you send to ECFMG should in english, so check that.
I haven't started my residency yet, I will apply this year.
Good luck

Better do it quickly, otherwise you might not get spots for the testing centre.

I havent given USMLE yet. Please guide me on the application process

Firstly regarding ECFMG certification application.
What all forms will i need?

Then transcripts are needed now on when applying finally for Certificate after passing the steps?

Please guide me through the step by step application process.

The process is

You regsiter with ECFMG and generate form 186
Fill it and get it signed by your college
send this along with a photocopy of your MBBS degree, and few other forms to the ECFMG on behalf of your college
In three weeks your form will get accepted
You can register for the steps and will the exam in any order
Also during this time the ECFMG will send a form and your degree back to your college for verification, you don't need to worry about this step, its all between your college and ECFMG.
So by the time you're taking the steps all this take care of itself and you;ll get ECFMG certiied.
