hey u can get really bored if u be there at home jus studing, so if u have the stamina then that aint such a bad idea, but what if ur hubby plans to be there for good then what will be the use of studing for aipge??? actually u can apply for something like MPH its also a 2year course n jus like psm only difference u may have an opportunity to join CDC or even WHO plus its study of mph does help u out for usmle cause it give a good hands on clinical experience in usa that may be worthwhile for u if u decide to give usmle later
it be very difficult to focus once u married for aipge i mean if u also pop a kid then u can say focus goodbye so i think u should try for cool courses out in usa i mean gre is goodway to go plus toffel is also good
and it jus maths and english u can also try for courses like master in hospital administration on terms with mba, if u like hell bend u want clinical course only and not something like psm then there is something called PHYSICANS ASSISTANT course is jus like mbbs for 2 and half years and its 100times simpler then mbbs and it be jus a breeze for u
there is also course offered by university of missouri in masters in ultrasonography only university that offers that course in master so if u decide tomorrow to come back to india u can atleast practise to be a sonologist plus its clinical( u can google university of missouri) this way u not all home enjoyin life and probably have a future earning in dollars
hope it helped!!! visit a website called gradschools.com have the list of all courses to suit ur need

Dermat is extremely competitive and for all practical purposes, impossible for IMGs to get. If you have a green card, it is very helpful on every step fo the way. Its still a struggle but an easier one.

P.S. Getting married to a GC holder entails few years before you get your GC in most cases. Processing times for GC via a US citizen spouse is quicker.

Arranging a clerkship is pretty difficult and takes a lot of time (Say if you apply now you might get it for 6 months or later from now). So, though technically, as a long as you are an intern you can do a clerkship but you would have to delay the completion of your internship until the time you start your clerkship.

You need to take steps to start a residency. Average Ob/Gyn salaries vary widely with region, type of practice etc but $200-250k is what some of my friends are making annually. You'll pay approx 30% in taxes.

Good Day to all Doctors icon_smile.gif
I have graduated from Odessa State Medical University,Ukraine in 2010.
I did my Observership in one of Mumbai's reputed hospitals and now im doing my Internship from JJ hospital, Mumbai.
I am really confused as to what to do.I have applied for PLAB 1, and i intend to do the MRCP as well.

Really not sure what the outcome will be , as it is kinda goin in a dark room.

Just stumbled upon this thread and it kinda interested me.

I wanted to know what time period would it take to complete the steps and apply for residency ( will be dedicated ) , What visa should i expect , amount of money to be spent , Coaching is necessary ? and finally Do i really stand a chance?

I really hope someone can enlighten me and guide me , would be really grateful.

Thank you

you can focus on getting the basics ironed out (anat, physio and biochem) in the first year. dont stress out about USMLE just yet. you can start prepping starting late second year when you have a better grounding in the basics.

There are very few fellowships which are still available for folks without doing residency in US. The requirement for all these is that you HAVE to be ECFMG certified.

It will take a lot of searching and corresponding with the programs to get such. You will not be allowed to practice in US after that as your wont be eligible to US medical state licence and you will have to made arrangement for J1 visa via ECFMG.

....if its so tough to get a surgery match, and if u r so keen of doin it in US,,better first try for MS/DNB surgery in india, get a seat, join PG,later clear steps while doin PG.......u can show ur PG degree as ur work experience, and participate in conferences get some certificate meanwhile in PG......doing PG here increases ur chances there...more over ur life shall be secured either way,coz even though if u cant get residency(lets assume) u can get fellowship prog for sure by clearing steps.
