The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists is offering a free opportunity to discover more about its specialty with hands on experience! Budding gynaecologists will be able to try their hand at virtual reality laparoscopy and hysteroscopy whilst future obstetricians can test their nerves when dealing with obstetric emergencies and difficulties using dummy trainers, and discuss interpretations of ultrasound scans with the experts.
Clinicians at all levels within obstetrics and gynaecology will be available to discuss the various training pathways available and members of the various subspecialty groups including urogynaecology, family planning, gynaecological oncology, endoscopy, maternal and fetal medicine, fertility, and menopause will be on hand.
There will also be lectures about the latest advances in the field from those at the forefront of the specialty.
Melissa Whitten, Chair of the RCOG Trainees Committee says, “It's great that the College is trying to encourage people to learn more about the field of O&G, especially at a time when recruitment into the field is so critical. Obstetrics and gynaecology is a fascinating specialty and there are so many areas within it that you can go into. A day like this would have been really useful when I was deciding which specialty might be right for me.”
