Of late I see many visitors question about courses in Tamil Nadu Colleges. Before knowining about the pros and cons of a particular course in a particular institution, I thought that you should know few common factors to all the Government Colleges that spans all the courses. I am writing this just to tell you about the facts you have to take notice.
First let us see the fees
FEES PAYABLE IN GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS in Tamil Nadu: TUITION FEES PER ANNUM.
PG Diploma Rs.20,000/-
PG Degree Rs.30,000/-
MDS Rs.30,000/-
M.Ch., (Neuro 5 years) Rs.30,000/-
The above fees structure is applicable for 2006-07 admissions. The selected candidates have to pay the balance of the tuition fees and other special fee etc., at the time of admission in the respective Colleges.
BOND
Non-Service candidates shall execute a bond for a sum of Rs.2,00,000/- (Rupees Two Lakhs Only) on admission to Post Graduate Diploma courses and 3,00,000/- (Rupees Three Lakhs Only) for Post Graduate Degree courses / MDS / M.Ch. (Neuro-Surgery) 5 years Course of the 2006-2007 session undertaking that they shall serve the Government of Tamil Nadu for a period of not less than 3 years, if required. During the above period, they will be paid a salary on par with the fresh recruits of the Government of Tamil Nadu Medical Services and the Government of TamilNadu will requisition their services, if required, within a period of 2 years from the date of completion of their Postgraduate Degree/ Diploma /MDS/M.Ch., (Neuro Surgery) 5 years Course. Two permanent Government servants shall be sureties. The prescribed form of bond will be available in the Colleges at the time of admission. The bond will become infructuous if he/she serves the State Government of Tamil Nadu if required for minimum period of 3 years.
At present the candidates are left as soon as they finish the PGs without rural service. THose finishing now are lucky. But the scenario is changing. But after 3 years, you will be asked to work in a GH / Upgraded PHC for Rs 10000 per month for 3 years. If not you have to pay the bond amount mentioned above and return the stipend you had got over three years. The Degree Certicate and other original certificates will ge given only after the Bond issues have been settled
What happens if you want to discontinue
The candidates (including the candidates selected under the All India Quota) who discontinue the course on or before 25-5-2006 shall pay the sum as specified below by way of Demand Draft taken in favour of the Secretary, Selection Committee, Kilpauk, Chennai –10 payable at Chennai to the Deans of the respective Colleges.
For P.G. Diploma Courses Rs.20,000/-
For P.G. Degree / Five Year M.Ch. (Neuro-Surgery) Courses Rs.30,000/-
For MDS Course Rs.30,000/-
b. The Candidates (including the candidates selected under All India Quota) who discontinue the course on or after 25-5-2006 shall pay to the Deans of the respective Colleges the sum as specified below by way of Demand Draft taken in favour of the Secretary, Selection Committee, Kilpauk, Chennai- 10 payable at Chennai.

In a nutshell
1. Fees Rs 30000 per year- second highest in India
2. Stipend Rs 5000 per month - Lowest in India (at present)
3. Bond - 3 Lakhs if you donot serve for 3 years of Rural Service AFTER your PG
4. Return the stipend and pay a fine of Rs 60,000 for discontinuing the course
