The MRCPCH examination for the Diploma of Membership of the Royal College of Physicians and Child Health. It consists of two parts, MRCPCH Part 1and MRCPCH Part 2.
The MRCPCH does not confer specialist status. In the UK, it is recognised as an entry qualification for higher specialist training.
The MRCPCH examination replaced the MRCP (UK) examination in paediatrics and since June 1999 the MRCPCH Part 1 has been run and offered only by the RCPCH. However, the Part 2 paediatric examination will continue to be a joint examination between RCPCH and UK RCPs until the end of 2003 to accommodate those doctors who have passed Part 1 of the MRCP (UK) paediatrics and have been given seven years to pass Part 2.
Form of the MRCPCH Part 1 examination:
The examination consists of 60 multiple choice questions to be answered in two and a half hours. It is designed to assess candidates' knowledge of the basic clinical sciences relevant to paediatric practice and the common or important disorders
Each question consists of an initial stem followed by five statements, each of them being true or false.
Candidates are asked to answer T=True, F=false or DK=Don't know.
Each correct answer will be awarded a score of (+1), and each DK or incorrect answer will be awarded a score of (0). There is no negative marking for this exam.
