
Indian GP honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award

In 1996,Shiv as GMC's delegate initiated and negotiated with the Indian Government and set up the PLAB test (Pt.1) to be held outside UK for the first time. This helped thousands of young doctors to take this essential test in their own Countries without disturbing their professional or domestic lives. PLAB is now being held twice in a year in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Egypt.
Social worker and GP Shiv Pande has been honoured with the highest accolade, the prestigious Asian Jewel Life Time Achievement Award by TSB-Llyod. Pande is Hon. Secretary-Indo British Association (North), Vice-chairman- Merseyside Council of Faiths and National Chairman-British International Doctors' Association Shiv Pande.
On receiving the accolade Shiv commented: "Britain is my home and I have received lot of affection, love, friendship and fellowship from all Citizens of this Country".
"It is my earnest desire to continue to serve them to the best of my ability in 2004 -Year of Faith in one City" and beyond.
"Also I hope all friends will keep extending their valuable support to me as they have done so far.
For 12 years, Shiv researched, and presented the informative, educational TV programme- "Aap Ka Hak" (This is your Right -presented by Late Lord Michael Winstanley, On Granada TV.)
Shiv raised and presented funds to Mother Teresa for her Charity - for the education of orphans of Bhopal Gas Tragedy. He also raised funds for the healthcare of the victims of the Latur earthquake to the tune of thirty six thousand pounds.
As GMC's first ever Asian/Black Treasurer in its long history of 148 years, Shiv contributed to public protection and doctors guidelines through GMC's Education, Standards, and Registration committees. He further protects the public from under performing doctors as member of GMC's Fitness to Practice committees.
Shiv has run several educational seminars including "Ethnic Healthcare ". Since 1976, he has been GP in deprived inner-city area of Liverpool.
He also organised Cricket coaching by Ace players like Kapil Deo, Sunil Gavasker, Ravi Shastri, Madanlal and Rt.Rev.Lord Bishop David Sheppard for the city's unemployed youths.
Shiv strongly believes that the life we lead is an inheritance from the past and we should learn from everyone and teach at least one person- "Each One, Teach One."
