Histopathology Part 1 examination

This whole-day examination consists of two written papers, in which answers are given in essay form. The two papers are generally orientated towards assessing the candidate’s overall knowledge and understanding of histopathology/cytopathology, including the full range of autopsy practices undertaken in a district general hospital in the UK. The two papers differ slightly from one another in that one is orientated more towards the basic principles of histopathology/cytopathology and the other deals with the more practical aspects of work and management.

This examination has a ‘closed’ marking system that generally means that the range of marks a candidate can achieve varies from 47 to 55 and any feedback should be interpreted with this in mind. Candidates are expected to achieve a mean score of 50 across the two papers to pass.
