Some overseas dentists with appropriate post graduate qualifications and/or experience may be
judged to have sufficient knowledge of the scientific basis of dentistry, the area the written
examination tests.

It is not possible for the Council to adopt a blanket policy guideline in regard to exemption from
the Written Examination – given that each qualification must be assessed individually and given that qualifications vary considerably.

Council considers that an applicant who has completed a Masters degree that included
adequate coverage of the scientific basis, who has published scientific papers and has general
practice experience, would normally be judged to have sufficient knowledge of the scientific
basis of dentistry.
